Yep. I think most people will agree that this car has much more Mk2 in it than it does FR-S. Not sure anyone would argue otherwise (that this car looks like the FR-S). But there are some/could be some under the camo features from the FR-S. |

well, so much for briging the passion back! this car screams borring from 3 miles away. how could they take the MKII and make this out of it is beyond me. and any ways, is my fault for getting my hopes too high.
how can a company that made the supra, have gone so off in the sports car segment! ohh well...

Price dictates everything about a car; from performance to looks. Sorry to break that to you. Toyota does not have an infinite amount of money to do R&D + production on their model lineups. They have a fixed budget of X. Now that budget has to be spread across their whole lineup; from the lowly Yaris at $13k up to the $400k LFA. Now tell me which car will get the extra time and attention during development? Hell Toyota put so much time and money into the LFA that they lose money on each one of them. You want $100k looks out of a $25k car. Not gonna happen. This car will look like a $25k car. You can call that bland, dull, ugly, lack of inspiration, no character...etc. But in the end that is what we are gonna get. The 5axis FR-S was a one off concept car. That will not make production. The complexity of manufacturing all of those body panels with the cool curves and lines adds money in the tooling/production process. Guess what, aluminum doesn't come out of the ground looking like body panels for the FR-S. It is much easier and cheaper to produce a body panel that looks "plain" vs. one that is "sexy." Whether or not you want to accept those realities is up to you. You have still failed to show me a car priced in the $23-25k price point (where the FT-86 is expected to be at) that looks like the FR-S concept. Until you do, all of your points are moot and have no basis in the terms of reality. |

Most of the people on this forum wanted a good bang for the buck car, that looked stellar. All of us had the I impression that it would look great just like the concepts, but that rarely happens. This car does look very similar to the MKII, which IMO, looks great. I remember in a video by autocaruk with the MKI, they asked the designer what wouldn't make it to production, and he said the interior and the bonnet aka hood. Thus, the hood won't have the aggressive lines that all the concepts had.

In the 90's Toyota created a car that looked very expensive for its time. Its called the MR2. And it wasnt over 30k in base form. It looked like a baby Ferrari and offered a mid engine. No one thought a mid engined car could start so low.

.I have to agree with you on that, it was the first example that comes to my mind. I know the MSRP is actually $26k and it is closer to 230BHP but it fits the criteria perfectly for an entry level $20 something thousand sports car with fender bulge. Edit: Yes, I said that little bit of bulge is fender bulge .

Compare the FR-S fenders with the RX-8 picture that I posted. Comparing a concept body styling to a production level styling just isn't fair. The fender bulge between those two aren't even comparable. I do not see the fenders on the FR-S making it to production at all. But I could see something like the RX-8 or WRX fenders making it. The FR-S fenders will not make it. |

. I already guessed someone would say otherwise. But you have to keep in mind we are talking about production cars not concepts |
