Once again everyone who comes in here, is practicing their Scion Douchebaggery before the release of the car j/payin. Now That was all done and over with last night we joked we played we're all cool. No offense was done to anyone we're all dicussing on good terms onces more.

Now I have a questions which Mazda has the Aisin Auto with Paddles? I don't remember them having an Auto with Paddles at all, or am I missing something?

Keep in mind that in a modern conventional automatic the 'manual' control is just electronic switches. Putting paddles, buttons, the push/pull sticks, etc... are just a matter of design for the most part. If they want paddles, it's no big deal to do.

There were also pics of the mule with paddle shifters.

It will come in both flavors.

even a DSG isn't ideal. its more like a compromise... its not as smooth as a regular auto for daily driving and its not controllable like a manual on the track... it is however faster than a manual and gets slightly better gas mileage than a manual. its a fair compromise i think. (but it doesn't sound like it'll be an option for this car)

for this car, manual is the way to go... its main draw is handling and if you don't have a manual, it kills that purpose. an auto might even make it feel undriveable, as was the case with the WRX, which is why I went manual.

in the end you have to do what is best for you, though... perhaps the answer is to get a different car. EVO X MR might be the best compromise of all... GTI is adequate on a track, but it doesn't have any fancy track mode for the transmission like the EVO does. the sport mode works, but isn't ideal and the manual mode will still shift for you. (not the case in the EVO)
Less than 1% difference in drive train losses on the Z (full lockup from 2 - 7 gear).

AT can shift in < .5 sec, faster with tuning; AT is about a 10th of a sec faster than MT in all tests.

If Toyota can put something like that in this, it will be awesome to all but the most diehard of car enthusiasts.

Syncro-rev would be sick, but I think Scion/Toyota would have announced it already as a feature. Who knows though, I'd love to be surprised!

It sounds like a 3K or 5K option, I would pay for it too. But If I remember for the 370z that's manual to get rev match you need 5 K for the sports package. All auto came with it standard. I drove an auto one longer than the 370z Manual and I have to say there's a significant difference between that and say Honda's CVT I tried on the CR-Z. It really does blip the throttle like a manual heel toe. Sounds pretty cool too. But still it's must be an expensive option. That and it's not offered in any other Toyota.

Doesn't seem like other companies are that interested in it either. I might be wrong.... wonder how much weight it will add.

With an electronically controlled auto transmission and electronic throttle, there is no physical reason for it to cost more. All the components are there. It's just a demand-driven price increase. It's cool, so they charge more for it.

They would be smart to have it standard to give the auto a more serious sports feel from the get-go.
