I wouldn't say the US market is the biggest for the GR86. North american market still tends to favor the "mo powa" side of sports cars. Heck, by the end of the gen 1's run, the north american sales numbers were pretty low (even lower in canada that they didn't even bother bringing the handling package over).

Therefore I'd say if there is ever going to be a grmn edition that will cross over to north america it will be the supra way before the 86. Even looking at the oem accessories now it seems like the jdm gr parts are not shared with the north american market. the fender duct accessory, ducktails, are different from the jdm counterparts.

A special GR edition designed and specced by the North american division (i'm going to assume there is GR USA and GR Japan like how there was a TRD USA and TRD Japan) is a possibility (like the 2019 trd special edition) which will be aero, wheels, plus the stuff that the future subaru sport tech rs trims will come standard with (bbk/sachs)

Well, to give you a small amount of hope, they also did a sneaky GRNM Yaris in 2017 and sold it in EU - completely unrelated to the 3 banger you might of heard of. 1.8l 4cyl supercharged engine (same unit from toyota that lotus put together - in fact its from them) + lots of other changes. Weighs about the same as an miata. They made 400 for EU (Germany, France, and 2 others) and 100 for the UK and 100 for Japan.

Yup they love their hot hatches in UK. In North America it's been those SUV's, trucks, and crossovers dominating the automotive market over past decade. Being RHD as well, austrailia and uk have much higher likelihood (still slim) of getting GRMN versions than north america

Trd handling package that was available as a dealer add-on at purchase for the 2020 model in the USA but left out in Canada

Pretty much made it a sport tech rs equivalent with brembos and Sachs along with the 18" uglies with Michelin PS4 that came with the GT trim up here

TRD used to be the actual racing division and then they started watering it down to a badge for a trim level. Now it is pretty much just trucks and SUVs that use it.

GR (Gazoo Racing) took over as the performance division and now they have watered that down by using it as a prefix for normal production cars.

Now GRMN (Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring) is the real performance division where the title actually means something.

There is a world of difference between the current GR and GRMN.

I doubt there will be a GRMN 86 or STI BRZ. They would probably say "doesn't fit the ethos of the car" or some such thing but real reason would be that the development and upgrades needed to justify that badging would push the price to a place that would be very hard to justify in the NA market.

I'd like to be proven wrong though. I'd pay $40k for a NA 260hp 86 that revved over 8k, track-ready brakes etc. I think I'm in a minority there even among enthusiasts.

the sachs/brembo combo + 18" wheels (basically the TRD edition without the bodykit, colors and exhaust) in the US was an option package called "TRD handling package" for 2020 86 on the Toyota side

That was never available in Canada. We only got the 18 wheels.

I think it was standard equipment for the BRZ sport tech MT starting in 2018.

The anniversary edition was the 10th anniversary of Scion. The Subaru 50th anniversary edition came out in 2018. Got a little while more to wait on that one to come around again.

Who knows what will happen as car makers and legislation pushes for EVs. The market could even suddenly have a mass rejection of EVs and start hungering for 90s sport cars again ����
