Special Edition GR86s

I want to pull the trigger when a nice special edition comes out which I hope will be soon especially since the 10th Anniversary, RS1 & Monogram (if you consider that a special edition) variants all came out relatively quickly after the FRS was released.

Are there any news or rumors on a potential special edition GR86? Surely a GRMN86 will be offered outside Japan one day?

Would be surprised to see one as early this time around. The way the supply and market are could very well mean holding onto a special edition for a year or two.
Any Special Editions will probably still follow the old color + aero + wheels and interior formula anyway.

yea pretty early for sure but considering Toyota has been testing a GRMN Yaris for a while now and that car hasn't been out that long gives me some hope that a special edition GR86 should follow suit. and Color + Aero + Wheels + Interior (+ hopefully exhaust) is enough for me. Either rebirth of Hot Lava or maybe even like a purple akin to the launch color of the m240i and I'll be happy af lol

2022 is the 10th anniversary of the 86/FR-S. We could see one very soon…

I heard there is one that has an extra 10,000 worth of features on it that is coming out in 20 days and it only costs 22,000 dollars. You should wait for that.

I picked up my 22 BRZ Limited manual 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier.

cool? this is going to be my 3rd twin and hopefully last new car for at least a decade or two so nothing wrong with wanting an extra special one.

Probably for the 2023 version.

Maybe subaru offer something first as their car is out a bit longer. Then Toyota may follow!

I wouldn't hold my breath. GRMN yaris is 500 unit limited model for only japan :( as much as I'd love to see it come overseas i highly doubt we'll see one in north america. It has a higher chance making it to other RHD markets

If they release another Hakone Green edition i might seriously consider buying one. I'm trying to save for a GT4 but man, the new gen is soooo enticing.

I asked Toyota UK about this and their view was customers think simplistic. Japan is RHD and so is UK , so we can get the GRMN yaris. They mentioned that each region has its own homologation / local emissions / safety and other rules. In order to meet them and get the type approval , it costs millions and they need a large volume of cars to be sold to meet that number. Hence there are so many Japan only limited editions. Remember the impreza 22B. Another WRC special limited car. Similar story..

US is not really a hot hatch market which is why GR yaris came to UK and EU not the USA.

Even Ford could not make the Focus ST and Fiesta ST work in the US while they sell like hot cakes here.

On the silver lining to the cloud, you are likely to have an exclusive corolla GR, so go folks buy loads of it and tempt Toyota to sell GR Yaris there. It's all numbers.

PS: I also hope there is a limited edition GR86 with the PP brembos and the Aero spoiler/ wing.

Of course there will be LTD editions, that's standard fair. Colour and a few different design elements is the usual with that.

But if you want the GRNM spec, its unlikely to come out of Japan, and might not even make it over to other RHD markets, such is the way of these ones where they make actual engine and lightening changes.

They made a GRNM 86, with 216hp and 160 lb/f as well as lightening it by 100 pounds even with bigger brakes and wheels (6 and 4 pot front/rear with 215 on the front and 235 on the back). Limited to 100 vehicles.

My guess is for the 2024 model year they'll introduce the better brakes and suspension package they offered on the old car.

Yep but that was even before the Supra was launched so GRMN was still totally unknown. Being that the US is probably the biggest market for the GR Supra/GR86 and with how much they are trying to push the GR brand over here I think we still have a chance. They had the TRD 86 at the end of the first gen and I doubt they would be mixing the GR and TRD brands in the future :iono:
