A-Pillar Question

How do I detach/remove that red clip in the pictures?

I have to ask- what are you doing that necessitates removing it completely? I understand if you're painting it or something. I poked at mine for a few minutes and ended up just not wrapping my pillars ( was going to do suede wrap like I did in my e36) but gave up because it wasn't simple and I didn't want to be force-fed the top of the A-pillar cover if that curtain bag went off.

triple a pillar gauge pod. Ill eventually be removing that air bag. today i was just popping off the current pillar to have a look around.

Is that strap on there to prevent the trim from becoming shrapnel in the event of an airbag deployment?
If so, I suspect the ends of the strap are attached very securely . . .

Well yea, the length of the red piece would (fully extended) represent the max travel the a-pillar would have from its clipped in position in the event of a deployment, but the plan is to remove the bag.. first car ive ever had with side curtain airbags.

My thinking was it might be as simple as a quarter turn of the mounting point or something... but i didnt want to try it and snap it (yet) in the event there was a simple method or a service manual somewhere..

I was considering A-pillar pods a few months back, ended up deciding against it. All the options seemed obstructive to visibility on top of being problematic due to the airbag inside that pillar.

To me, a pillar gauges are so other people can see you have gauges

I love this setup, much less intrusive then my Perrin two gauge setup that blocks part of the cluster.

I'm afraid of them after snapping my pinky finger on one. In my 3000gt VR4 it hung very close to the steering wheel (you could touch the windshield with your fingertips, very horizontal roof line). In a fit of excitement, I turned the wheel clockwise to make a tight corner quickly and nearly went off the road after my left hand pinky got caught on it.took months for it to bend correctly again. It still looks f'd up.

A constant reminder to myself that nothing should dangle from rearview mirror, nothing should be near the steering wheel, nothing should be between your hand and the shifter. Because as soon as it's out of place, that's the one time you really might need to be unencumbered!

That sounds nearly as painful as when I severed a tendon in one of my index fingers once. It also took a couple of months to heal and be able to bend straight again (plus physical therapy even).

Theres some degree of 'showmanship' in every mod you do, (think carbon fiber front splitters or those big massive rear diffusers as 2 big ones). For me personally, I like the look and positioning. But between it NOT being a daily and the illegal tint, nobody will likely ever see the gauges I have, so I would say swing a miss on that theory as it pertains to me specifically. Other people though, I suppose its possible.

The picture you included is done nicely, its just too damn 'cluttered' for me. I want to run oil pressure, boost, and a nice wideband AFR. And the ones I've seen where people have them mounted on the passenger side above the glove box is straight up cringey.. (kinda like lil bow wow's VW in Tokyo Drift or some of that pimp my ride shit where they bondo the whole interior)

If you're looking for another option, you should check out Block8head. He makes a double and triple pod setup that drops into the defroster vent.

Personally, I don't like his triple setup since it seems too large and would run the double setup with an ATI AC vent pod to run three gauges.
