^^ Of course it is. That's a silly thing to say.

When I did my rear diff I spun the wheels by hand while the plug was out and more fluid drained out, not much but enough that it was worth that small effort.

Looks like a normal amount of undercarriage corrosion for a vehicle that gets driven all seasons in the snow belt, especially if in an area that (over)uses salt on the roads...

I drive in all seasons in new york, and I haven't had that much rust on my undercarriage and am at similar mileage.

That's why I was asking, I'm assuming his area throws down an obscene amount of salt.

When doing the engine oil change you should start your engine too while drain plug and filter are off. More oil will come out.

thanks everyone! I am between NYC and Albany and yes, the roads get covered with as much salt and sand like a beach

Oh come on. A 3-5 second spin by hand generates next to no heat and can't create any damage but a bit of fluid will run off. Sorry your popcorn is stale and some of the kernels didn't pop, don't hurt your teeth.

Wow that diff drain plug looks filthy. Also I have those same shitty disposable gloves, they always end up ripping.

You forgot to mention to add a bottle of simple green or any brand of degreeser to the engine. Then start the engine.
