I think I know that sound. I think that's a low battery.
What do you mean by "seems fine"? Have you checked the voltage? I'm guessing it's so low the starter doesn't kick in, but the dash lights and stuff works. Below 10V or something, I guess?

I suggest you get the battery jumped.

I hope you get going again.

Not turning over. Think you guys are right. Battery is dead. Called Subaru roadside to get someone who can jump it or check if it needs to be replaced but it might be a while . Stranded.

I can be there in about 37 hours. 35 if I catch traffic just right.

Oh, rather well, thank you. Trading plunder for spoils, you know.

And yourself? Any Mongol armies around?

I have now invaded the west coast twice. Close enough.

No, but I've learned to NEVER trust my 3/8" drive Harbor Freight torque wrench and use it only as a hammer.

I can feel the difference between "it's getting tighter" and "it's broken." I'll refine from there.

Been well. None as of late, which is good. Only have to deal with Tcoat.

It's all about stopping well before it stops getting tighter. Most people instinctively overtighten.

Aluminum reaches that point more gradually. Feels more squishy.

I'm selling my dear old workhorse truck, if anyone's interested. It has failed inspection and have to go. Even though it would work great as a planter.

Has to be collected on the west coast of Norway, deep in backwaters where any place worthy of a blotch on a map is hours away.
So I guess the market is rather limited. Basically, if the kid down the road doesn't want it I'm screwed.
