Squirrels, rats or critters in engine bay solution!

As stated in the title, I have found a way to prevent most critters away from chewing, or nesting in the engine bay all year round. I have tried dryer sheets, traps and mothballs. All of them failed and stunk really bad. So I used Tomcat Aerosol spray https://www.homedepot.com/p/Tomcat-1...0605/302683092. This does not stain the engine, does not stink or enters the cabin. You only need to use it once a month. Started applying this in January and a light coating on the entire engine and potential entry areas once a month. I have not seen a single branch/mud/dogfood/trash or chewed on component since then. Works for me and just wanted to share this idea with you! It does smell like peppermint/garlic when first applying but quickly goes away. I know it specifically says not to use it on the engine bay/ cars but I did and it works.

I would be worried about this gumming up my engine..

theirs a reason they warn not to use it on wiring/ battery / engine (to save there ass)

some of the reviews even mention it being "sticky"

I can see your concern but I don't see it happening unless you douche it on there, you know? So far with over 4 months of use engine bay is not sticky or collects dirts. When I say light coats, I mean light coats.. but again I can understand your concern. Thanks for the input!

I live chatted with Tomcat a few minutes ago. They are saying not to use it on engines because:

It is flammable.

They have not tested it on engines.

Liability reasons.

Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium benzoate are pretty safe chemicals. the first is used in toothpaste and the second is a food preservative. The essential oils are self explanatory.

I had Norwegian rats in my engine bay...

No, not the one I caught one with a small bear-style trap that I chained/staked to the ground. It weighed 13oz and from nose to tail tip, stretched across the entire lid of a normal 33gallon trash can. like this one... Can't find my pic right now... Little crapping BASTARDS! My engine stunk for awhile. I have since moved out of the boondocks and no longer have a rat problem.

I Just wanna know if OP lives under a tree. Post a picture of your front yard!

*1 I didn't have tis problem when I used to live in the northwest. XD
*2 I did live in the middle of a neighborhood atop of a small hill.... so maybe that helped.

Back to topic, why not just spray it inside the wheel fender/By undercover & near wiper area....instead of the engine bay? It's not raining no more.
