Yeah, I drove the freeway today and double-checked the numbers. 68-70mph is definitely about 3k rpm. Higher goes 3500-4000rpm.

Got it, same as the old cars then. I wonder if that's supposed to be some sort of a safety feature?

A much more efficient way of asking the same question is to just asking about the 6 gear ratios and diff. ratio. It will be very helpful if somebody can list all of them. It is widely known that the 17 has a smaller diff ratio. Not sure whether they changed gear ratio to compensate. I have a 13, and the differential final ratio is already too big for me as DD, I am actually thinking use a slight larger tire to lower the ratio. I do not need to be fast, just want to make the car less 'jerky' in the 1st gear.

I am actually thinking about using 225 45 R17 tires on stock wheels. The overall circumference is about 1.4% larger, i.e., less RPM at given MPH and slightly (5%) increase in sidewall to make the car more forgiving on harsh road surface. Has anybody tried this? Helpful comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I always forget there is a 6th gear.
I am often cruising in 5th.

I've actually done this a bit recently and just stuck in 5th longer rather than going right to 6th.
