For a mighty and expensive super-car maybe. But not really for this car.

Race-car speed usually requires big engines with big power and thus big $$$. While race-car like handling can be had with smart/effective engineering and lightness.

As long as the 86 is faster than a decomposing log or say, a Prius, everything will be fine.

The Camry and Corolla are notorious for mediocre handling, hopefully Toyota gets it right on the FT-86 (which I think they will). At least good handling is a MUST.

As Im sure has been said frequently, the most important thing for me and I think a lot of people is how well the car takes to modification.

If the car is set-up in such a way that aftermarket parts suppliers can easily develop products for it, then I dont care if it starts at 200 HP, as long as the motor can handle up to 500 HP and I can do it in a financially viable way.

Things are looking good with this one.

The speed will be there, if it's light enough. It doesn't need to be a huge engine to keep it quick. I'm not talking sub 3 second 0-60 times or anything, but it does need to be competitive in more than a corner.

sure, but the MR2 and Supra both handle exceptionally well. also, the LFA, ISF, etc... toyota can sure make cars that handle well. no problem there.

competitive with what. an n/a 4 cylinder being competitive with a 300+ hp v6 in the 0-60 or 1/4 mile is just unrealistic.
