Valve adjustment
The lack of information with legible directions and understanding for valve adjustment on the fa20 engine terrible. Can somebody post a video or actual pictures and/or parts required? I'm not interested in tools. From working on my motorcycle we had buckets and shims but on the fa20 it seems a little backwards and confusing.
I really hope builders dont need to keep 50-60 different valve shims instock.

The way I understand it, it's exactly the same.
1. Measure and record all clearances. 2. Disassemble 3. Measure and record all shims 4. Mix & match as much as possible 5. Buy new ones for those that don't fit the bill. Did I miss anything?

Is our shim supplier only the dealership? Im intrested in a shim kit or something other than measure and wait 2 weeks for a shim.

Most dealers can get the shims next day, that's typically what we do and they always have the shims either in stock or next day from a local warehouse.

There is a cap on the top of the valve in different thicknesses.
you can to fully assemble and measure the clearance between cam and rocker. Adjust accordingly. This is one reason why when disassembling the head you should keep the valves springs retainers rocker and cap all together bagged and marked with the specific cam lobe. If someone is selling heads in parts keep in mind the shims are like $8 each You could end up spending $200+ trying to reassemble them. Or HOURS! Personally if someone is selling heads disassembled the value is scrap unless you have the time and a set of GOOD micrometers to measure inside that little valve cap. But time is money

I don't understand. The whole process is defined in the service manual.

@celek: Am I reading you correctly that the shims/caps don't have their thicknesses marked anywhere? YIKES!! I've been putzing with shim systems (over bucket/under bucket/shim as bucket/cap as shim) for a very long time and almost all have been annotated.

I mean you have to assemble it once and measure everything with feeler gauges and adjust accordingly. Service manual says use micrometers to verify as there things are tiny

There is a statistically significant possibility that a shim is out of tolerance. Even if it's tiny, I strongly advise the measure-twice-cut-once approach.
At least measure a few to verify the calibration of your micrometer. That way, when you find something odd the second time measuring the valve lash, you'll know you can trust the micrometer. If I haven't done a process at least a few times I tend to go overboard.
