I replaced the sound tube with an aftermarket intake tube and it sounds a lot better and more consistent. It's also noticably louder. I would think an whole intake would be even louder than that.. strange..

I found the sound generator to make a grating noise. It was Ok when I was at stock but once I started to make some changes it had to go.

"Louder" probably not so much due removal of sound tube, rather due removal of resonators, that branch from OE intake tube prior sound tube, i guess.

I have the Takeda CAI intake and it sounds quite good. Regular everyday driving is slightly louder but in a good way but the best is when you go more wide open throttle; the intake sound becomes more of a deep grumble tone and sounds really satisfying. The problem with this intake though is it kills the power in the car because the AFR are now off and will require a tune which is a lot of money on top of what is already an expensive mod just for sound. I am planning to get headers and then tune the car so that it becomes great again.
