Unless something has changed a dog box is meant for hard shifting racing.
We found that the dogs got worn out every couple of race weekends and had to pull the trans to change them regularly.
To drive on the street or even around the paddock without shaking your teeth loose and offending your ears with gear noises is not easy. Each shift requires jamming the dogs together to engage the gears. The dogs are expendable.
If you can rev match perfectly-- ie shift without using the clutch go for it.
I would highly suggest getting a ride in a car with a dog box before spending the money on the change untested by yourself.
Sometimes called a drivers dream and a mechanic nightmare.

Keen to see how this progresses. I've been waiting for a dog set to be released.

Hell, Something that even holds together and doesn't strip teeth would be nice. I've seen plenty of transmission failures due to hard shifting not entirely related to the gears themselves but bad shifting skills. It's hard to blame all the failures on manufacture alone and not user error.

I'm curious to know if this ever happened. I have been working on a dog box program with another manufacturer for about 8 months. It finally arrived and it sure is pretty. Assembly is being completed now and it will officially be tested at Mid-Ohio in about a month. If all works out well, I will help arrange for a group buy.

Ratios are not stock, as it was designed for a racing application, using a 4.56 final drive. 3rd and 4th are close to stock ratio. The only gear that is exactly the same is 5th. 1:1. We made an improvement on 6th and it is roughly 0.840 (vs the stock 0.767). So, the car should actually pull in 6th gear. 2nd gear is taller and will be usable with the 4.56 rear end or stock 4.11/4.30.

It looks good. Can not wait to hear how you do at mid Ohio. I hope this works well we need a good option.
How are the dogs attached to the gears? Machined, pressed, welded?
Field replicable? Return for remanufacturing?
Second set come with the trans?

I'll get all of the details to you guys, ASAP. For now, I only have this one set. It goes in the stock transmission case. So, that is a big benefit.

It should be assembled this week and in the car for a run on the dyno, next week. I'll try to get some video of the shifting action. I paired it with an IRP short shifter. I'm interested to see how that works out.

Just to close the loop on this, the dog box shown above is amazing!! Simply amazing. I could not be happier. It is definitely a racing setup, but it is tough as hell and shifts are incredible. I'll be posting some details about it shortly.

As a note, I paired it with an IRP short shifter. Great combo.
