Another Saturday night ....... just liven the dream .......

Today was my granddaughter's 10th birthday. When asked where she would like to go out to eat ........ she replied "I would like for pa-pa to fix one of his special dinners".

How sweet. Come to find out she wanted to eat at our house, because that would give her more time to open presents and play .......

So, I fried up some southern fried chicken. Yep, in a big old cast iron skillet, filled half way full of buttered Crisco. Buttermilk coated and floured the chicken pieces, adding lots of salt. Turned out extra crispy, just like Mom used to make. That, along with pork fat seasoned green beans, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy and of course, biscuits, made for some good eaten.

Must remember to take 2 cholesterol pills tonight .......

Crisco is evil. Just use good ol' lard.

Well, back on the farm, my grandmother always used lard.

Yep, we always had a few 5 gal pales of lard down in the fruit cellar. I remember her asking me to go down and get a few large scoops full and I didn't mind, because, I always knew something good was about to be baked or fried.

Besides it was a good break from sitting on the kitchen floor, cranking the butter churn......

I would recommend you go with anti cholesterol pills actually.
