"If you don't have a Patek, well life is just fucked!" I've got a Seiko quartz chrono I like, it's like my 86. Not the most prestigious, not the best X for the price range, but satisfies what I want. It gets approval from those in the know who aren't up their own asshole, and people that know nothing have complimented it, just like an 86 (looks fast, looks expensive). Hey some people like $15 Timex's from Target, that's why Toyota makes Corollas and Prius and millions of people are happy with those too. I want an SNK809 the same way I want an AW11 MR2 or NA Miata or E30/E36. Cheap and dirty fun that, excuse the pun, is timeless. On paper, it's inferior to what I have now, doesn't keep time as well, not as modern looking, the technology is primitive, but it's fun, it's rewarding to someone who 'gets it'. And when those shoot up in value we'll have other options at rock bottom prices available to replace them. Maybe someday I'll be able to justify an Omega Speedmaster or Grand Seiko, just like someday, hopefully, I'll be able to justify a 911, M5, or FD RX-7. Hell maybe things take a turn for the worse and I'm shopping for old civics while wearing a $15 Timex, who knows. I'll never own a Patek just like I'll never own a La Ferrari or 918, but I'm not crying about it. And if that makes me a wanker, well Archie can eat my dust the fat fuck. For those that don't know and can't stand more than 20s of the video, I just Googled for the cheapest new Patek Philippe, it's about $10k for a thing you wear around your wrist. I'd rather buy two (or three) Mazda's for that money just like many watch collectors would rather buy two (or three) Rolexes. And there are people who would rather die than be caught driving a Toyota/Honda/Chevy/Ford/Dodge/Nissan etc. Last edited by strat61caster; 10-20-2016 at 07:54 PM. |

Although I'd honestly think about getting an auto for the better gas mileage because that is how my mind is wired. |

I traded my fully loaded 06 IS250 awd for fully loaded 15 WRX limited and plan on trading in for either BRZ limited or Miata RF GT. I don't feel like a downgrade. It comes down what you need. Just because a minivan cost 55k doesn't mean it an upgrade.

The margin on Patek is 50 (50%). That was supposed to be confidential (ohhh well, come find me and break my legs because I am spreading the gospel ). Spend $20k on a Patek, we'll it only cost the jewelry store $10k to then resell it for $20k.
I guess I'm a wanker, since I am content with my $200 Citizen watch.

Yeah it's a solid daily commuter that is fairly bomb-proof. There are several Scion life members with 300k+ miles still rolling on original engine + tranny. Sure, I could sell it tomorrow for $6-7k.....but it's almost like why, when I can drive it another 40k miles (before needing a clutch), and during that 4 yrs or so it may only lose $500- 1000 in value. Anyone I know who is looking for an inexpensive, good on gas, low maintenance cost, fairly versatile vehicle= I recommend the xA, no hesitation. Only imported for 3 years....the good die young.

Has this been attempted? I remember on another forum, 6gc.net, there was a thread about swapping a Camry final drive into a MT celica and it dropped the revs from 3500 rpm to 3200 at 80 mph. I know it's easier on that platform tho because largerly it's influenced by previous engineering, like the 5s-fe was pretty similar throughout it's various generations and decades but with upgrades and improvements throughout its lifecycle for power and emission standards.
I didn't realize that the swap on this one was possible with a auto tranny. If I could be so rude to ask for the thread to that one? I do plan on reading it extensively. |

In essence you can choose your gears but you cant easily launch and the gears are also taller. In addition 1st to 2nd gear in the Auto isn't direct, I believe it runs through a torque converter. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Last edited by deejaylew; 10-21-2016 at 09:24 AM. |

Exactly...if you're 'struggling' with what might be the lightest clutch ever produced, you either need to get into the gym, or practice driving a manual more. |
