I've always wanted one, I'll get one this weekend. I'm wondering though, will I have to connect it to a pc and erase footage for every drive or what? Does it have like a button or something to restart the memory card? Also which one would you guys recommend?

I'm sorry for your loss and I hope for the best in recovery of broken ribs (holy shit).

Where in the bay are you? This looks like East bay, Fremont-ish maybe?

Most of them record in a few minute splits and then fill the memory card up and then start recording over the oldest data. Mostly you just put it in the car and when you need to get data from it in case of a crash like this post, you only then have to monkey with it and get the data off the memory card.
They all can be hard wired into the car so they'll turn on when the car is on. I also seen where people have it going 24/7. Some of them have motion sensor also.
I did a quick 1 hr search and came to the conclusion this is the best one for close to $100. https://www.amazon.com/V1P-Dashboard...9e51a40905640f Not the best possible one but best for close to $100 with a front and rear cam.

Accidents happen. Glad you're okay.

Lucky the idiot driver had insurance.

Notice the lack of sounds of a skid from him, although he does honk at me! He didn't speak English, and a coworker that stopped had difficulty translating what he said, but he claimed his brakes didn't "grab". He didn't have a license either, although somehow has insurance. FYI, when the first light you see goes green, the second one you see goes green as well, so his was red for about nine seconds.

I've got two fractured ribs from probably hitting the center console. They hurt as much as people say they do. I don't recommend it for anyone.

No witnesses stopped, and his insurance started to claim I may be partially at fault, but changed their tune when they saw the videos. Please, get yourself a dashcam. Mine's just a (relatively) cheap A118 aka B40, but they work well for their purpose. https://dashcamtalk.com/ has lots of useful info.

Part 2 (below) is just me groaning. I didn't bother merging the two video files together since I've have better things to do like find a new car since mine (2015 Hot Lava) is totaled. I ended up with a new 2016 in Oceanic. It's not Hot Lava, but it will do. I got a good deal and didn't want to wait for the '17 cars to come in with their higher prices.

Part 2:

Sorry about the car. I hope the guy was ticketed for running a red light! Should have been taken to jail for driving without a license. Probably not his first wreck either.

i always make sure my dashcam is connected and recording whenever i take the car out

too many scum bags these days will try to lie and deny everything just not to be at fault..right until you shove the dashcam footage up their ass and they shit it out their mouths

there was one incident where a woman collided with another guy's car and then she decided to lie to her insurance that it was his fault...he shut her ass down when he provide video proof..get a dashcam..it's worth it!

Yes, we often don not realize how narrow our visual attention is, how easy is to miss thing in your peripheral vision.

I am not blaming you in any way for what happened, the fault was entirely the other driver's.

I'd just want every driver to realize this fact: when you are looking for "a second" at your phone, or your speedometer, or your mirror, or an accident on the opposite side of the highway, or a nice-looking girl on the sidewalk, your brain does not really see what's in front of you, even if you think it does.

So avoid looking at things that are not necessary (accidents, girls, speedometer most of the time) and for things that are necessary (mirrors, side streets) look often, but always for a very short time. Have look but don't watch what's going on. And after that always check what is the front of you before checking another mirror.

The scan pattern should be rather front-left mirror-front-rear mirror-front right-mirror-front-speedometer-front not front-left mirror-rear mirror-right mirror-rear mirror[what is this guy doing in his car]-speedometer-front

Doubtful on the ticket for the red since the cops would only do an exchange of info form. Possible for the license, but I didn't stick around for that.

hope you heel up! I wrecked my '16 yamaha r1 a couple months back when a Bmw s1000rr cut me off in a group ride. He's trying to sue me for a variety of unfounded reasons (I am an attorney in NY) and I still cannot believe my GoPro wasn't running at the time of the accident.

I think it's time to invest in a dash cam for my '16 wrx.. btw, broken ribs are insane! took about 3 weeks before I could laugh again without crying. Best of luck

Why wasn't he charged? You have video proof.
