IMS issues are a problem that can be fixed fairly easily with proper parts (LN engineering kit) when the engine is out of the vehicle, the reason it turns off so many potential porsche owners is that you have to pull the engine which is a huge cost, if its already out of the vehicle for the swap you might as well change it |

personally other than doing it for the lols i would prefer just getting a 987 cayman, after driving a few it is making a great case for replacing my brz if the 2017 BRZ is unreasonably expensive with performance package |

The 3.0L Duratec would be a better choice (better intake manifold, cooling and oiling passages and PCV system) but it still has lousy connecting rods so you will have to plunk money into K-1 rods, rebalancing and all the gaskets and torque-to-yield bolts if you want it to last before figuring out how to fit it in the car. I pretty sure you will need a custom oil pick-up and oil pan because neither the 2.5L or 3.0L Duratec was ever put in a rear drive-only car. If you want the powerband behavior of the SVT, you will have to find a good set of cams and chains from the 2.5L to swap-in as the 3.0L factory cams are not as rev happy. Fortunately, those are easy to find used but not necessarily with low mileage on them. Aftermarket support for the Duratec V6s seems to be pretty poor too. There is a lot of potential in these motors but there are much better options for the OPs project.
