Yes you can skip alternate gears. I don't because I drove truck or cars with no synchromesh trannys for a long time and the habit of using each gear just sort of stuck with me. It also helps prevent over reving since each using gear is a little more tolerant then skipping.

I'd like to point out that I maintain speed for as long as possible and stop in a very short amount of space so I'm really not out of gear long. Just sayin

The sad part is that most of this is so easy to show and I could probably have you doing it like a pro in a few minutes if sitting in the car. When it comes down to trying to describe the actions in print however...

Well I fly so that wouldn't work. Be back in the fall so if you feel like driving a while we can book some lessons (I hope you have it by then actually)

I downshift as much as I can to a stop. Once at stop I'll put the clutch in and leave the car in first at a light. If I know I'm gonna be there for a while(long light or Alot of traffic) I'll put it in neutral and put the clutch out. But typically what I'm trying to say is that I always leave the car in gear in case of emergency. Coasting in neutral is a no-no for me.

Heel-toe is ONLY used when decelerating and is used to make the gear shift transitions smoother (less jerk on the wheels). This is particularly important when trail-braking during hard cornering where if you shift too abruptly you can upset the car and loose traction in the rear. Stopping is just a variation of decelerating. You can also decelerate using JUST rev-matching and no braking... In this car I use the extended gas pedal and instead of heel-toe I use both balls of my right foot. Big toe on brake, right side on gas to blip. In my Porsche the gas pedal hinges from the floor so I actually use the heel of my foot to blip the throttle. |

I been rolling in gear till I come to a complete stop, but sometimes it just auto pilot into neutral, but been trying to stay in gear most of the time, down to 3rd and sometimes 2nd gear. Seems like my upshift is still a bit rough, car jumps slightly sometimes v__v |
