Not on computer so don't have access to my links but the site that gives the numbers states they are " direct sales to the consumer " or something along those lines. I have tried many times to locate the manufactured numbers for each month but they just don't seem available. Makes sense really since if there are a bunch sitting tucked away someplace then they do not want the stockholders getting too skittish.

I was one of the 960 FR-S's in August! Yay me!

Pretty interesting to read this information. By any chance, is there a breakdown by color and/or M/T vs A/T

When I checked autoTRADER.ca yesternight, there were more than twice as many used FR-S's and BRZ's for sale in southern Ontario compared to two months ago. It really took me by surprise.

Yeah, there is more and more used ones everyday which is slowing down sales for new ones.

More used ones because the first batch of 2013s (purchased in 2012) are coming off their 36 month leases. The used market for these cars is going to be very aggressive moving ahead. Buyers market ahead.

This is why they need to do a refresh...like at least do what subaru did with the Impreza wrx sti in 2002 - 2004 - 2006 to keep the car feeling new.

What would the point be? I'll bet production is winding down, and they're probably getting ready to put the nail in the coffin for the twins.

Funny though, this was the car that the internet/enthusiasts/anyone who wanted a fun car demanded to be built by someone. Toyabaru grab the bull by the horns and build it, yet no one bought it. The internet then screamed for more power, and Tada was like "lol nope".

Just goes to show that this is why you don't listen to enthusiasts or the internet when it comes to building cars.

But this is the best selling RWD Japanese sports car of the last fifteen years with the exception of the 350z. It has sold extremely well considering past trends and the data shows it is continuing to sell very well, go back and find the last month Mazda sold 1.5k NC Miatas.

By my math they only came close to averaging that in the first year of production and it was all downhill from there.

But it does look like the ND is doing pretty well so far, about 1.3k units last month.

I should have been a bit more clear, for the amount of people demanding basically what the Twins have become, a very small fraction bought them.

Not everybody has the cash/life position to get a sports car, even a relatively cheap one. There's also a lot of choices out there. I'll tell you, though, the track junkies I've given rides to just love the car. One has a fully prepped old Porsche. The other has a C6 Z06 carbon ultra whatever edition and a new Viper TA. They also appreciated the FR-S's eagerness to turn in. They did not appreciate my piss-poor rev matching while braking.

75,000 "no ones" bought the car, just in the US.

A few people on the internet can make it seem like everyone wanted one or that everyone wants more power just like a few automotive "journalist" (I use that term loosely) can make it appear as if something is one way when it really is not.

Case in point: motoring.com.au (and all the dimwitted sites and publications which quote their drivel as fact).

I tend to agree with strat. For evidence, I would point to the sales in May of 2012. Supposedly, there were 86 FR-S sold that month. I know for a fact that all the "First 86" were not sold in May 2012. Some sat at dealerships for a couple months before being sold (and titled) to customers. I suspect that the dealers may be considered Toyota/Subaru's customers and these numbers may be based on units delivered to them.

They'll all get one when they're $5k assuming enough are made.

I'd be surprised if "production is winding down", you're in a tizzy about a month where 1,500 units were sold, Honda sold less than 1k/month S2000's in 2002, two years later the facelift came out and production continued until 2009. Mazda averaged less than 500 Miata's per month over the last 5 years and they still made a brand new kickass generation.

Toyota's shortest run for a sports car in recent memory was the MR2 which got pulled in North America after 5 years or the MK4 Supra getting pulled after 6 years on the market. It's also worth noting that combined the BRZ and FR-S match the sales of the Scion TC, is that on it's way out too?

The car has only been available for three years. You'll be seeing new 86's on dealership lots for another 2 years at the bare minimum.

There really isn't anything out there that does what the 86 can do, I crammed 3 other people into my car on Friday (along with tools including a full socket set, jack, and jack stands, chairs, and two helmets) and hit the track, the car was out there running hard for nearly 3 hours (two drivers, 9x ~20 minute sessions), put the camber back to street levels, bump the tire pressures back up and drove home getting >30 mpg.

The RX-8 can come close (but that isn't a new car sale) and if FWD is cool with you the hot hatches can also hold up well (and lets be honest having an extra 6 inches of legroom would have been nice for the drive there and back).

I am going to have to budget for two more coilpacks for my next track event though...
