Squeaky aftermarket brakes

I recently bought a Subaru BRZ used with around 10k miles on it. Before the previous owner passed away, I was told he swapped out the brake pads for Hawk HPS brake pads. Even after extended used, the brakes will still make a high pitched squeak when I brake at most speeds. Does anyone know what issue this could be? Would the dealer be willing to fix whatever you suspect the issue is?

You could try to rebedding the pads. Is there still enough pad material left? They may have only been used for 10k, but if those mile are mostly track miles, there might not be pad left.

I haven't checked yet to see if there's enough pad left. Do you know if I could tell without taking the wheel/caliper off? I'm really not sure what kind of use he put into it so that's entirely possible.

If it helps - I have HPS pads and they have never squeaked.

After going out and looking, I can't really tell if the pads are worn down too much or not. On the right rear wheel there is a tad bit of rust on the rotor where the pads make contact. Is it possible that that's what's squeaking? I just drove it around 200 miles yesterday so I would have imagined that it would have come off but maybe that's not the case.

re-bed the pads. simple as that. if that does not work, get another set of pads. simple as that.

So essentially that involves wearing in the brakes a bit in order to clean off the deposits?

Hawks always squeaked for me ... more so when they get a bit dirty. I just lived with it.

yes, and so mating surfaces are the same so when the pads hit the rotor, it is completely flat/even.

It works in most cases(if not a race pad), if it does not, you should just get some used pads off someone here. I would trade but I need my car daily.

hps pads should never make noise, mine where always dead quiet. Do you have a lot of dusting, maybe you have a HP+?

You could apply some Disc Brake Quiet made by CRC. Put in on the back of the pads where they come in contact with the piston and the caliper. I use it when I do brake jobs and its given me good results.
