The guy never filed the ticket...so there was nothing in their records. I just got a paper saying that I showed up on that day with the ticket number. Can't fine me for something thats not there.

I think the cop has up to two years to turn in the ticket. It's such a lame law.

Yep...

They have to have a valid reason to pull you over. The fact that he said that he pulled you over because you "looked" like you race is NOT a valid reason. I wouldn't even get a lawyer. Submit a trial by written declaration with the bail amount and write that the officer stated he pulled you over for having a car that looked like it raced then proceeded to conduct an illegal inspection without your consent. Your bail money will be tied up for a few months but it will most likely all be dismissed. Jaden |

must be be something with airport cops. A guy from up here (Humboldt) was down at LAX in his new diesel dodge and was pulled over for "mods" but the truck was stock. Tried to say his intercooler boots looked aftermarket. The truck was stock and he left without a ticket but scary they just pull you over for no reason. I avoid the airport like the plague in my truck now, its massively illegal.

that's what court is there for. if you drive off, it is still a crime since you are being stopped by an LEO. at the scene, it's up to the LEO to determine probable cause. it is the court's job to prove if the probable cause was legit. the best advice would to be nice and respectful to the officer, then deal with it in court.

cops, especially near the LA area, have been cracking down on modified cars lately. you can blame the people who street race on the streets to give a bad rep to the whole car modding community.

It's unfortunate but a couple of idiotic pencil &@*$ who think they have to prove things "on the street" are ruining it for all of us. There have always been overzealous LEO's and there will always be tuners and mod'ers skirting the line of the laws. But when it starts becoming a problem is where people are brazenly racing on public streets, freeways, etc. Where they're closing down sections of roads, or meeting up with hundreds of cars doing burnouts and donuts, etc. And even worse is those who go on instagram, Facebook, youtube and start posting up pictures and videos of these things. So what *DO* you think the police response will be and has been? Decrease the level of tolerance. Start hitting up even those that potentially look like they're going to be an issue. The whole thing about "stopping because of probable cause" isn't one that's going to get you very far. Yes, you may possibly beat this particular ticket, but it's playing a game that you can't possibly win over the course of your modding life. At some point, we as a community need to at least self police. Idiots who are racing up the public streets need to be held accountable at least by us and strongly "persuaded" to take up track day events or other open days for drag racing, etc. We are unofficially doing something illegal according to the strictest letter of the law. We are modifying our cars when it explicitly states that we cannot do so. The fact that we think those laws are stupid and we choose to ignore them doesn't automatically make LEO's jerks or in the wrong. They would be far more likely to be more tolerant and ignore us if not for those idiots who think the public roads are their own personal playground for racing. |
