Not my fault you have to roll performance into your car payments. Epic Fail of a post sir. I will say we can agree to disagree and leave it be at that. You seem to be getting a little uncomfortable with maintain a like wise mature conversation. So, it don't matter anymore what your opposition is no more than mine matters. I'm still buying the car, and I'm still going to mod it above it's factory performance. And LOL...thinking that I hate my cars because I modded them....how stupid does that sound. |

Back from Miyazaki and still arguing? LOL
Hey, Dragonitti quick question. How much did it cost you to tune your tC? |

Free when you do it yourself. It's always been street tuned (even with the turbo it was), which has always been free for me. Parts get cheaper to as you pick up sponsors. My next turbo Setup is coming way by partial sponsorship. My new setup w/tune though I'm actually going to get it dyno tuned since I'll be running 50/50 meth injection with it, and I don't know much in the workings of that yet. |

A tune is the cost of normal dyno sessions for any car, so without knowing what the cost of different areas are, I would have to generalize it from what I normally see, which is about $100 an hour. You can expect to spend $400-500 bucks on tuning cars when you take them to a dyno shop with a capable tuner. Not sure how much it's going to cost me since my sponsor will probably work in a discount for me perhaps. They have been known to generally cost roughly about $500 for tuning turbo tC's. |

so how much did the car cost you (totally i mean, nothing is free, if you do it your self in your own time then you are doing it away from your family and thats a price of its own), not including the cost of the base car itself?

I have been able to shave cost on a lot of stuff on my ride though because they are not brand new parts.
APR GT200 wing for example generally retails for $800-1000, but I bought mine off of Chris Rado's Time Attack tC before they redesigned it into the dual wing setup it is today. They sold it to me for $340 shipped to my house. I try and find deals whenever and wherever I can. APR Front splitter is new so that's $230ish Carbon Fiber Fenders and hood came way because my fiance got into a fender bender. Instead of paying some auto shop to fix it with OEM gear, I took the insurance money and bought Carbon Fiber parts (which were cheaper than OEM and painting it). Corbeau Seats and Harness about $740 for the pair + Harness and seat brackets (would have paid $1000-1500 if not for them wanting to sponsor me. TRD LSD along with a TRD clutch (which I'm using now since my Stage 4 Comp Clutch went out)....was about $700 for the both of them. TRD LSD retails for over $1000 but a guy was selling both online in the classifieds. Tein SS coilovers are used, got those from a guy in the classifieds for about $650. E-manage Ultimate I got from my friend with the boomslang Harness for $300 bucks because he upgraded to an AEM Standalone on his tC. Boomslang harness brand new are $300+ and the Ultimate brand new is $600ish. EBC Red Stuff brake pads are about $95 a pair from Summit Racing. Energy Suspension Motor mounts are like $50 bucks Defi E-GT, Boost Gauge with control module and AEM Wideband ran about $800 My old turbo setup I spent about $3-4k which includes the cost of the gauges and the install (since I didn't install my first turbo setup). First turbo setup was done by the owner of ZPI, who was a friend of mine at the time. Then I think I spent like $500 to upgrade the turbo later on when I wanted a better top end spool (upgraded to a 20G from a 16G). Sold my old turbo setup in the classifieds for about $1800 (originally wanted $2000 for it). My tires that I run at the track and daily drive on cost me $560 a set for my Hankooks. And then I have a set of R-comps also that are Kuhmo's and they ran about $760 for the set. They have lasted all season for me. My new turbo setup would probably retail for est. $5500-6000 for anyone else (just for the turbo setup). For me, it's about half that. You can get a full turbo kit though from a reputable company like Dezod or turbonetics that will make 300-350whp for $3000 -/+. Or buy a tuner kit for $2500-3000. My new setup is: - Dual BB GT3076R w/SS Tial turbine housing (full v-banded) - V-banded downpipe - EL v-banded manifold w/twin CompGate wastegates - 3 inch full v-banded exhaust - 900cc injectors - Return fuel system with Swirl Pot - 50/50 AEM Methanol injection - (eventually a Twin disc Clutch) It will be on a stock motor for now, but eventually I will have it built and running BC cams. Not sure though if I want to run the BC stroker kit to make it into a 2.6L or just run the standard build. |

I don't want to have to spend $10k on a new car to not hate it when I drive it. Even though I too plan to mod it in the future. Do you get what I am saying? As in, I don't want a car to suck so bad off the showroom floor that I feel compelled to spend a ton of money so I don't hate driving it. More clear? As for rolling performance into payments. You are the one that somehow believes that not having a factory LSD and not having a properly tuned suspension is more performance oriented. Because 'real' enthusiasts will just put their own in. How you got that far brainwashed by Scion's 'blank canvas' marketing is beyond me. What's your ultimate 'performance' options list? No engine, but it comes with a TIG welder, and some DOM tubing? I guess I'm not a real enthusiast like you are. How about this, Dragonitti? Toyota sells you a bunch of steel tubing (with Scion stickers on it) and some Locost plans for your next car? The funny thing is that the guys defending Scion before you jumped in were basically saying that you and other performance oriented Scion lovers are the absolute minority when it comes to the brand. And that performance is irrelevant to their marketing. It's funny enough that I can imagine hearing Oneday laughing hysterically at me as I continue to bang my head against this wall...

Oh, and the cost associated with Track time.
Depending on the organization you are running with, you can expect to spend $175 - $300 dollars for one day at the track depending on the organization and the track itself. Like Road Atlanta in Atlanta GA, isn't going to cost the same per day as Summit Point Race way in West Virgina. My cost for track time so far.....$0 (because the people I have ran with, offer volunteer sign ups. You sign up to work the corners as a flag man or whatever, and you get seat time). |

I don't have a problem with that. What I have a problem with, is you assuming that applies to me, when it doesn't. Quote:
I won't hate it when I drive it stock no more than I hated my 350z and no more than I hated my tC when they were stock. So, it's all good. I think we are beating the bush now about the topic, so I'll just respectfully agree to disagree because I don't think unless you have walked in my shoes will you ever come to an understanding of my views on cars. |

If I wanted to spend 10K on a car in mods right after I bought it, I would just take that 10K and put it toward a car that is already better in stock form. It's always easier to modify a car that has been designed for performance, and designed well. Also, drangonitti, a simple final total would have been sufficient rather than spending three post dancing around the question only to finally post a grocery list of part (both bought and sold)

Scion just sucks, period (performance-wise), sure you can make it better but why put so much money in it ? You must really love that Scion. This is a toyota fr-s forum. Key word TOYOTA not scion and we'd like to keep it that way. Please keep that scion stuff out of here Scion has no history and makes cheap, slow, boaring cars Sure you can say the same thing about Toyota but they have history Toyota Supra Toyota Aristo Toyota MR2 Toyota Celica Gt Toyota AE86 and then comes Scion tc, all that i have to say is ![]() ![]() .If you have all this money to spend on upgrades and really like to track your car and like it to be involved with Toyota then i suggest what i am going to do next year and buy a lotus exige. ![]() Now we're talking.

And then wonder why you getting passed by a Scion tC that's modded.... If that's your cup of tea, fine by me. Rock out with the Stock out...the FT is going to be so ubber it won't need an aftermarket parts catalog because stock is good enough for everyone. @2jz-gte4Life....This is an FT-86 forum last I checked. Which has no badge at this point in time. I've owned Toyota's as well and have every right to voice an opinion on a public forum. You don't like it, don't read and respond.....pretty straight forward. And wasn't FR-S the naming scheme rumored if it was to be under Scion? "Toyota FR-S"....that's news to me. Keep the Scion stuff out of a thread about the FT coming out as a Scion....Yeah that makes sense to me to...Dahuhaahu..Have fun gents. I'll swing on to other parts of the forum as I've utilized most of my time in this thread and it's getting old now. |
