Do people in Toyota ever come and take survey about what their potential buyers want?( of course, in here and other FT-86 forums out there). They have to think again before losing potential buyers. I didn't say it's true, but if it's true.

This doesn't fit the scion image (how many of these threads are there gonna be anyway?). Scion is entry level, fwd, low-cost, tuner"ish" cars. They already market their cars as "sporty". Toyota doesn't have that. Toyota need a RWD sports car to bring in sales from people who aren't interested in econo cars.

And if price alone qualifies the car to be sold under a certain emblem, then the Yaris, Matrix, Corolla and Camry would all be Scions because they're all under $20k. I love my tC and I love the scion scene and people, but it's disgusting to think that Toyota would release the FT-86 as a Scion. It doesn't belong there. It's like bringing back the Supra as a Scion. But then again, look at Toyota's line-up - they offer nothing with F/I and the only two-door car they offer is the Yaris (aside from the trucks). IF they marketed the FT-86 as a scion, it's more than likely because it doesn't fit anywhere in their Toyota lineup either. I can understand why they would do it, but I still think it's a stupid move. |

^ price is not the defining factor, and yes scion has it's own management, who are clueless and the ones who messed up the brand in the first place, regardless of Toyota's engineering. If they "got it", then the xB 2.0 would be the same as the JDB bB that is out now, except perhaps with a 1.8 or 2.0 engine (Because everyone wanted more power, but now bitch at the worse fuel economy... go figure). The xD would not bother to exist, the iQ would already be here, and the tC would look more like the fuse concept and would have been here 2 years ago. There would also be more variety, a Samauri type mini-jeep for instance.
I have no problem with Toyota sharing the platform and building something that "gels" more with Scions quirky image, but the point of scion is to get younger people to buy into the brand to "graduate" into a Toyota. If Scion has the FT-86, what Toyota would they "graduate" into? A Supra type car would be far to big a leap. C'mon guys, it's simple logic. Did Toyota hire a bunch of monkeys to work in the board room all of a sudden? |

Agreed. The people who buy the FT-86/FR-S aren't the target market for the standard Toyota Line-up. You don't graduate from the FT-86 to a corolla or camry or sienna. If they released it as a Lexus, I would be much happier, and it would make more sense because the IS line-up just got bumped into the $30,000's so they could offer another IS-like entry-level Lexus. Yeah, Toyota, do that.
btw if the tC looked like the fuse 2 years ago I never would have bought one. The fuse is retarded looking. |

you are retarded thinking for even imagining a ft86 as a lexus.. if it was a lexus you couldnt afford it anyway.. if you could you would be driving that FWD POS corolla "coupe" you call a tC

Who cares if it's a Scion or not as long as they don't decontent it. Look at it this way, if it's a Scion then we don't have to worry about dealer markup like on other hot cars. Hopefully for 25K, it's under 2800lbs, has at least 200hp, a LSD, IRS, big brakes, aisin 6 speed, and a decent interior..

![]() You're right, how dare I compare the FT-86 to a Lexus. That's so absurd. ![]() ![]() What could I have been thinking??And why did you put coupe in quotes? You do know the tc ACTUALLY is a coupe, right? Just checking. Last edited by 2dot4; 10-12-2010 at 02:15 PM. |

![]() Most rationale post in this thread. Mark me down as another who DGAF about the badge. My only problem with Scion is that they like to charge rediculous prices for TRD "performance upgrades". Wasn't the TRD supercharger for the Tc like $4000 for only 60hp or something? Factory installed and warrantied or not that's crazy. I can see Scion nickle and diming us for every performance part: base car $25,000, want LSD that's another $1500, BBK $2000, Turbo another $4000, etc. What started out as a reasonably affordable fun coupe will quickly turn into a $30,000+ car. |

And your statement applies to modding cars in general, not just dealer options. I know thousands of people who have turned $15,000 cars into a $30k+ investment by adding aftermarket parts. It's not uncommon, so what's your point? Also TRD doesn't sell a turbo kit, and in regards to the supercharger it is ridiculously overpriced ($3200) but it was the only supercharger available for the tC (still the only s/c option if you can find one). Plus for an extra $500 in injectors and a pulley, you can make 300whp. $3700 for 300whp isn't a bad deal. Of course it's detuned from the factory - doesn't stop you from making more power on your own. |

overreaching a bit there aren't you? Either way, I would mind seeing an SLK/Z4 class car based on the FT-86 platform. |
