coilover weight
Love your thread. I keep coming back to it for more ideas.
Tell me, was there any weight savings when you replaced your OEM struts with coilovers? |

Thanks. I bought the car used with the coilovers already installed, so I have no idea.

Damn those hubs look as bad as the ones that came off my 96 nissan.
Though I guess that means that they won't get any worse than they are... I take it you live close to the Gulf? |

Yeah, like 15 minutes from the beach. I bought the car from Utah though. It saw one salty winter, so it's got corrosion everywhere. The engine bay looks like hell.

I changed my oil for the second time yesterday (third time for the car). That was the cleanest used oil I've ever seen, so I'm happy about that. I also installed the cam plate I bought 14 months ago...
Before: After: So if the car wasn't a chick magnet before, it will be now. Quote:
And while I was at it, I removed its buddy from the other side of the engine, which was even heavier: Just those two pieces and their 4 bolts saved 5.125 pounds. Cheaper and lighter than Nameless! Not as flashy though...

On the passenger's side, you have the other injector cover, which also doubles as the mount for the direct injection ECU. The DI ECU has two bolts on bottom that mount to the engine, and one bolt on top that mounts to this thing. The two bolts on bottom are more than enough to hold it in place safely, so that's how it is now. No zip ties needed.

That new cam plate looks heavier than the old one. Should probably remove it and shave some material off it.

Do you mind taking a picture of the engine bay in its entirety I'd like to see what it looks like after you removed those covers.
Also when is the "day of reckoning" weigh-in coming?

Just to throw this out there; the di covers are to prevent a fire in the event of a crash. The front fenders don't take much to cave in and if they make it to the di fuel line that's alot of very high pressure fuel spray. Just saying before anyone asks what they are for and why are they so heavy.
