So as it turns out, I took a look at things and realized that its would be better to just put my winters on and deal with this in the spring. Definitely will keep an eye on this thread, as there appears to be a lot of good info here. It wouldn't hurt to keep this updated with newer tires as time goes on.

Thanks again for your opinions and help guys & gals!

Don't most tires come with a warranty for replacement if you wear them out before their guaranteed miles?

Yes, but you usually need some proof that you did proper alignments and tire rotations at the appropriate intervals.

If you're going to have dedicated summer/winter tires, I'd say go all the way and step up to a set of Extreme Performance Summer tires.

BFG Rival, Dunlop Direzza, Hankook RS-3, etc

^ This is retarded and doesnt at all fit the ops request.

Imo my extreme performance tires suck for dd use. There is no need for the level of grip they provide on legal roads unless you drive like a chubby cock 24/7. If you drive like a chubby cock 24/7 on legal roads giving advice on dd tires probably isnt your forte.

Let alone the ride quality, noise, lack of tread life and garbage rain performance.

Going off the tires here right now or that ive had this summer in terms of strictly dd use.

Goodyear f1 asym 2(super nice as dd summer for the price), mpss, bf sport comp 2 ($88 each@ local sams club, have them on gfs tdi and my forester for summers), and then z2ss z2 and rival.

S-04's are awesome. I've put 10k miles on a set. $640 installed with new hardware. For the price you can't beat em. Mileage has not changed avg stays at 29.9 or 30.

Only negative is they're 4lbs heavier than stock but 8,432,716 times stickier.

Awfully hostile there aren't you bud (perhaps a Xanax and some personal time are in order)? In stock/near stock sizes there really isn't a big cost difference between something like an RS-3 or a Conti DW (which would be my next recommendation, comfy, sticky as crazy, amazing in the wet, quiet and comfortable).

And since OP didn't bother to break down his priorities like say:
Tread life
Dry Traction
Wet Traction
Noise
Ride Comfort
etc,

And merely said cost/performance, having dedicated sticky summer tires is hardly "retarded" (when mentioning also having dedicated winter tires) and it would let him go have some fun at an Auto-X or HPDE as well. Cars as light and low in power as these are don't wear out "sticky" tires very fast, unless you're comparing it to some 85k mile touring tire.

So take your holier than thou attitude and blow it at your a$$.

I think you are the one that needs a xanax.

First off, both of you calm down. All opinions are welcome here, no need to get all worked up over what has been a constructive discussion so far.

Secondly, in my mind, a quality DD tire would have a good tread life (I think I said at least 30k miles), above average dry and at least decent wet traction (because sports car), not deafening noise, ride comfort is a higher priority (as I work in Cleveland, this place isn't known for its pancake smooth roads)

I always appreciate if you have more questions, if it helps you narrow down what you would recommend.

My stocks just hit 50K and are just starting to near the wear markers, but I primarily DD my car with a minimum amount of sideways/extreme action with the exception of a few spirited mountain drives now and then.

I'm in the same boat as you @HunterGreene and will want to replace mine with some all-season tires (I drive it in the winter but not in winter wet/snow, I have another vechicle for that).

My question is can you increase the ratio without changing the wheels? I'd like something with a little more sidewall. In all the cars I've ever owned I've always switched like for like in terms of size so never really looked into changing the numbers at all.

I would seriously consider the Continental DW for a 3 season tire. I had these on my 2006 Miata and it is a fantastic tire.

If you want a 4 season tire the Continental DWS would be my follow up choice.

If you still want a set of winter only tires, no recommendations there. We get so little snow down here that when we do, I just work from home.

Check out the reviews on TireRack.com as well, they typically do VERY extensive testing on the vast majority of all the different tires they sell.

For all you guys recommending Conti DWS, how soft are they? I'd prefer the Pilot Sport A/S 3 because I'm concerned that the DWS will be too soft in warm/dry conditions... but I do have to go out in a little bit of snow 2-3 times per winter.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Funny that you mention the Michelins, because I had an informative discussion last week with my tire guy who was about to put a set on my Dad's car (Veloster Turbo). He likes the tires and recommends them.

He also agrees that asymmetrical > directional. He says they are less hassle and will actually keep their grip longer in inclement conditions.

I asked him for a comparison of the Conti DWS vs the Michelin Pilot A/S and he said that the better deal, when it comes to cost vs. quality of tire are the Michelins.

I can understand if there is some disagreement, but I tend to trust this guy--he and his garage have been doing tire and maintenance stuff for our cars for close to 20 years now.
