Lets put this into perspective. In 1997 a Supra which was HEAVILY modified by Blitz making 606bhp ran a 7:49 on the Ring. A stock 2010 SS ran it in 8:20. With a cursory search, I could not find a Stock TT Supra lap time. The ZL1 Camaro however, ran it in 7:41 (580hp).


Take it as you may, but I would say that IF we could find a stock TT, and have proper testing done, it would perform similarly to the SS, but in all likelihood, would be slightly slower.

thats not a fair argument because it is not only speculative but concerning the stupid nurburg ring which doesnt really mean anything because of the millions of variables

If both of those work out and revive Toyota as a sports car company again, then I can see them thinking about a new Supra.

As a Supra owner though, I hope Toyota either leaves the name dead, or creates a -essentially cheap LFA- that gives the GT-R a run for its money, blows away the competition and is fitting of the Supra name.

yeah thats better but i still think, as you have pointed out, that there would be alot to be said about the handling difference. the camaro was a cool car but the supra seems to be a cut above simply because of the handling charactristics

This is what I don't like. People keep saying that the Supra was designed to compete with porche, vettes, and all that but when you look at the stats, Supras were fairly competitive with "cheaper" cars like the Camaro. Specs wise the supra might have competed with those cars but in reality it's a much cheaper car. Look at the FT86 for example. Its benchmark was the Porche Cayman, a car far more expensive. What I want in a new Supra is a car that takes after the FT86-30k ish price tag, really high benchmarks, focus on things like COG, balance, ECT. To keep costs down they can keep expensive things out of the base price and add them as options. Use Lexus' 2.5L V6 and make a N/A and turbo Version. Keep power below 400-350hp. And NO FLAT-6. I don't see how that would cost 70k like some people (cough cough) say.

The car is rumored to feature a mid-engine-mounted, 3.5-liter V-6 hybrid setup mated to a CVT lifted from the new Lexus RX, but tuned for higher performance.

I wont believe it till i see it but judging from the concept it looks like a beefed up FRS. Seriously makes the FRS look like the new supra concepts little brother. Would be really interested to see how they do the new celica. New MR2 prototype, not a fan.

This is not a Supra.

Supra needs to be a LFA with a 6/8 Cylinder engine and a 6MT Trans. And probably made of Aluminum, not CFRP. Oh yeah, and RWD!! That's important.
