I finally put my crash bolts in after all this time and was very surprised at the difference. I think I'm more or less past overdriving now and just about spun each of my first few runs last weekend. I haven't had an alignment yet - I may just turn the tie rods out a thread on each side to get rid of the toe in I added and see how it feels. Or maybe just leave it.

Are the TRD performance parts allowed for Street Category?
Since you could ordered your FRS to come this way from the dealer could you retro-fit those parts? Would that also work if you have a BRZ instead? |

Nope, oem performance catalog parts are not allowed. Explicitly denied in the rulebook.

FYI: If you are at 0 toe in front. 3 turns of the 'flats' on the tie rods on both sides gets you to 1/4" total toe out. So 1 and 1/2 turns would be ~ 1/8" total toe out.
This is helpful you all worried about crash bolts install, you can do maybe 1 turn of the flat of the tie rod ends to get back to 0 toe or slight toe out. |

You can always buy a set of toe plates, companies like longacre sell them. Not hard to get an alignment. There is also the string/jackstand method. Just ordered some bolts for mine. Going to try my hand at CS in San Diego region.

I know about toe plates and the string method. However, you're measurements are only as good as your tools. If he's doing his own measurements, what is he using? A measuring tape? Calipers? Did an actual shop do the measurements? I'm just curious to know what he used.

Quite a bit depends on the shop too. There's maybe 2 shops in my area I'd trust. You can get a pretty good alignment with some basic tools. Plenty of national championship cars have string/toeplate/pvc toe gauge alignments.

I agree. I was within 0.1 degrees of what the laser alignment machine said on my VW using toe plates and some easy Excel calculations. Some of that may just be that I drove the car between my garage and the alignment shop, so I'd say I am dead-nuts especially because of weight transfer, air pressure changes, and all the other variables that can contribute to microscopic changes in toe.

My brother uses the string method, and he's gotten pretty good with it. I haven't had the chance to use his setup. Like I said, I was just curious about what you were using.
