remember that oils with elevated levels of zinc such as 300v can negatively affect the catalyst substrate

Actually, it's the phosphorus that can negatively affect the catalyst substrate: http://www.gf-5.com/the_story/performance/

Although I think this is a bit exxagerated. You have to be burning a lot of oil for it to even get to the cat. If it was that big of a problem, then nasioc, iwsti, legacygt.com, bobistheoilguy.com, any many other enthusiast forums, would be full of failed cat threads due to running mixed fleet gas/diesel oils like Rotella T6.

Some race oils contain reasonable amounts of phosphorus, while some oils (like Red Line's pure race oil) have much higher levels (double the amount of their street oils).

I'm currently running Motul 300V 0W-40 which has 975 ppm's of phosphorus (according to Blackstone virgin oil analysis), while the API SN Mobil1 0W40 that I've run in the past contains 1,000 ppm's of phosphorus (according to Mobil1.com). OTOH, I believe that Mobil1 Race Oils have high levels similar to Red Line's pure race oils. Miller's Nanodrive has p levels slightly higher than 300V, IIRC.

Like with many things in life, there are no guarantees.

Well, you likely will not damage your engine, but specs like ILSAC GF4/GF5 and ACEA C3 (which 300V does not meet) have maximum limits on phosphorus as to prolong catalytic converter life. IMO, you would need to be burning a fair amount of oil for it to get to your cats in the first place.

I've run nothing but GF4 and GF5 oil in my naturally aspirated 2000 Impreza 2.5RS and had to have the cats replaced. OTOH, I've run mainly higher SAPS oil in my 2004 Forester XT and haven't had any problems. One gentleman on bobistheoilguy.com has been running high ZDDP HDEO/diesel oil in petrol cars since the 1960's with no problems!

What change interval?
What kind of driving.
What mods?

It is not rated for these cars so if you do damage it, SOA is not going to cover it. I know that Dennis will argue but Motul tech dept has advised us to not use the 300v in extended interval changes for street cars that heat cycle often. It is meant as a racing oil.

Personally in a street car the 0-20 Motul x series will be more than enough IMO.

It has been argued that 300V and other race oils will last 3000 race miles and up to 7500 street-only miles. Read this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...14#post1657614

There are some race oils that are perfectly safe to run in a street car. Millers Nanodrive is one of them. I trust the engineers selling Millers oils here in the US and that's why I've been running their Nanodrive race oil in my car since last summer and it has been great through 3k miles and 6 track days. I will be changing mine around the 3k interval going forward since I track my BRZ often. The verifiable 6 WHP gain from just an oil change is nice too.

I'm planning to do 3k changes on my BRZ which sees 2-3 track days a month and about 700/wk in DD miles. So at that rate, I'll be changing it about 1x a month with 2-3 track days on the oil.

mister.bond does not care about SoA.

It is not API certified but 300V can safely handle a 5-6k mile interval. It is fine to use as a street oil and we have uoa's on this forum to back that up.

Sorry, but you cannot prove to me that it cannot handle a typical street/tracked interval of 5-6k miles, regardless of who you're speaking with. Is it overkill for most applications? Absolutely. Will Motul Eco-lite 0W-20 be fine for most intervals here and up to Subaru's/Toyota's 7,500 mile maximum interval (longer than 300V)? Absolutely.

BTW, there are no "x-series" oils in the Motul line-up that are 0W-20. The only 8100 oil by Motul that is a 0W-20 in N. America is Eco-lite. Is there a new oil that's not on Motul's web site? Or maybe you're thinking of X-clean 5W-30 and 5W-40?

Sorry was referring to the x-lite 0-30 which would be the closest to the 0-20 required.

I'm not going to get in a pissing match with you but if a manufacturer of said oil doesn't recommend it for street use I am going to advise them as such. Unless you and your uoa's would like to take on the liability by recommending something the manufacturer doesn't even recommend.

i know i want 0w20 , but i want to choose the correct one without looking
at the costs.
