I don't understand why toyota couldn't make both a NA revvy car for the hardcore old school AE86 guys and then a higher power version for people like Dan who are looking for a lightweight s2000 sized coupe with a little bit of power? All the money would be going to Toyota instead of being lost to the aftermarket.

There really seems to be a big divide forming on these forums between the old school AE86 people and everyone else. It will be interesting to see how things develop the more info we learn about the car.

I don't think there's a divide between the folks at all, but simply a difference in what we as consumers want out of this car. You have the same purists for the s2000 and then you have the guys that want big HP numbers out of it. Same thing here, nothing more. The important thing is that we all appreciate what we are doing with this car.

I drive it to work about once or twice a week.
Here is a list of weight savings on this car off the top of my head.

Child seat anchors
floor mats
Foam sound deadener on firewall
All speakers
Carpet
Passenger seat (at track)
Airbags and sensors
Air bag controller

In car sound deadener under carpet
Spare tire
Spare tire bolt and cap
Spare tire cover
Jack extension handle
Jack
All trunk trim
Trunk springs
brake dust shields
Parking brake
Windshield washer fluid reservoir - about 12 lbs full
Hood liner
Battery 32.0 lbs (now 15 lb odyssey)
Rear tow hook
Rear bumper cover unnecessary mounting brackets
Rear bumper beam
Rear bumper beam bolts
Under coat
Front bumper cover unnecessary mounting brackets
Front bumper beam
Muffler heat shields
Various brackets, bolts, nuts, etc.

That sounds like the same stuff I removed from my WRX. I look forward to Subaru owners digging into this car. It will be like an Easter egg hunt. They'll be unbolting parts just to see if they can. If the car still drives...the part stays in the garage! Who needs those army green fuel injectors covers anyway.

I think Subaru owners will love the bigger wheel wells on this car as well. No more searching for an extra mm with camber bolts, camber plates, adjustable lower links, rolled & pulled fenders...unless you want tires wider than 245's. Just bolt them on and be happy. I'm hoping they left plenty of room in the rear for at least 275's and took care of any offset related bearing issues.

If the rear diff is an R180, I think the Toybaru is in for trouble. Let's hope it is a beefy Toyota/Lexus rear end.

If I get one of these cars, the first mod I'd look into would be polyurethane steering rack bushings. Best bang for the book on my MR2 and WRX.

Even though its too soon, I am thinking about smaller diameter wheels (16'' if 17''s are stock), some removal of not useful stuff like I did to my MX5 (I saved about 1000 lbs from its stock weight). Then, maybe I'll try a different setup with a set of sways.

you should look into Braille batteries, they are 6-10 lbs in relatively affordable prices.

I'm gonna keep mine stock. I don't see too much of a reason to upgrade much.

RWD? Check. 6spmt? Check. LSD? Check. Good Suspension? Check.

Nope, my checklist is complete!

Is anyone planning on a 4age swap? I know there has to be..

To each his own. That's what makes this so wonderful. There are always folks that don't want to upgrade anything. People do the same with the S2000. Things can always be upgraded from factory though. Just imo.

if i end up purchasing one of these, i will likely keep the mod list VERY short. i have my MR2 to go nuts on.

-brake pads: i like Porterfield R4-S pads
-short throw shifter: probably TRD
-tint: maybe 35% all around, nothing too dark
-factory/TRD exhaust upgrade option if there is one
-stickier tires since i imagine there will be all-seasons from the factory: i like Toyo T1R's

depending on what some drivetrain parts are, i might want to change a couple other items.

-if they put a dual-mass flywheel in, i will pull that out and get an aluminum flywheel
-i REALLY hope they don't put an accumulator in the clutch hydraulic system; if they do, i will need to figure out a way to remove it. i want a VERY direct clutch
-LSD if there's no factory option for it

i really think these simple mods could take a very fun factory car and make it just that much crisper.

-Mike
