Anyone else started thinking about mods already?
I know it's entirely too early to think about mods, but I just can't help thinking about what I'll do to my 86, provided the production model ends up as promising as it seems at this point. Coilovers, rims, BBK (if produced), bigger turbo (if there's a turbo version), exhaust, etc, etc.
Anyone else catching this bug early like me or am I the only one? :paddle: |
Hm... So far I just want the front Lip. Feels like FT86 is missing the CF lip. As for real mods. I need to see what kinds of spec it has before I want to do other stuff.
|
Oh yes. I have a big list of things going already. :happyanim:

depends on what it ships with as base model (what i MIGHT be able to afford haha); I'd probably try and design brake cooling ducts, lower it 1-2"s more than stock if it's not low enough as is, and think about getting the exhaust down the middle; oh yeah, and shave any weight off that I can; first mod would probably be a braille battery and even wider tires to be honest.

Wheels are the only mod I could think of just yet :)
|
Wheels, Lower, Intake and exhaust until the warranty is over then we will see.

Always thinking about mods, even on cars I don't own or won't be owning :) I'm the fool who collects mods on a car before I even buy the car. I'm sure there's some of you who have also done that :D
First thing is always what kind of wheels would look nice on the car. Factory wheels almost always fall short of my taste. I've imagined some tint on the car already too. As for performance stuff, it's hard to think of what I could want right now since the performance and engine specs aren't out yet. But a suspension drop is always nice for looks and some better handling. :burnrubber: |
Yeah, wheels with a decent offset would be my first choice. Get a nice tint going too! I think part of my purchase will be trying to squeeze as many options out of the dealer as I can, heh. Make a list, in order of preference, and see how many I can get out of them.
As with most I think I'd wait to do mods until after warranty has expired. Wheels are fine with warranty on most Toyotas from what I've seen. Would just save an arseload so the day it comes out of warranty it'd get some coilovers, intake, exhaust, and maybe an aftermarket ECU. Would go great whether it's released turbo or not. :) EDIT: Almost forgot! 2-way LSD would be pretty much mandatory too. |
I will probably only get some lightweight wheels in stock size with possibly wider tires depending how the stock configuration grips.
My current car is FWD and with the current suspension setup is very neutral. I can just fling it through the corners and not worry about anything. The 86 will be my first FR vehicle and will have to learn how to tame oversteer. |
It's nice to hear other folk's thoughts on what they have planned. Right now I'm really up in the air with the whole warranty thing. Guess only time will tell.

Maybe I.T.B.'s to remind me of my old Silver top

I want light aftermarket wheels (because you know the stockers are going to be relatively heavy) and upgraded suspension bits. I don't need a bunch of go fast parts, at least not early. I just want to enjoy the tossability of this promised light-weight RWD car.

Probably whatever open air and cat-back TRD offers (to give it a more aggressive sound), that'll be about it in terms of power. Everything else will be TRD suspension upgrades: Springs, struts, sway bars. Basically whatever I can do from TRD to keep the warranty valid. After the warranty is up I'll start getting more serious about what I'll be changing around. Edit: Oh yeah, someone mentioned a LSD earlier in the thread. If TRD is offering a 1.5 upgrade, I'll take that too. But lets just hope the car comes with LSD standard! |
