Honda challange guys have been running on 7inch rims. They run anything from a235/40-245/40. We currently run a 235/40/17 R1R on the stock rim. It's a touch smaller then stock and we have no problems.

Tirerack is showing a 215/45 F 255/40R stagger option for stock wheels. Anybody have any experience in that combo?

Do you happen to have a picture of them on the stocks?

I've always run 235/45/17 on the FR-S and my VW (has the same size rims). Been using them on the VW for over 10 years. I don't like the "look" of the stock size. It just doesn't look right to me.
Actually as soon as I got the FR-S I swapped tires with the VW. It has the stock Scion tires on it now. And it looks really wrong. They'll probably be the last tires it ever sees because I pretty much don't drive it anymore. The FR-S is much more fun to drive.

I'm running 225/50 on 16x7 with zero issues, including autocross. Car has better feedback than the OEM setup, and I don't need to run crazy pressures get good feel. 7" is perfectly fine for a 225, unless you just like the extra weight.

Every manufacturer specs out acceptable wheel sizes for each of their tires and sizes. Some 225 width tires will fit. Others will not. It's dangerous to run tires out of their specs, unless you're just hard parking.

I installed 225 55 17. And they were rubbing. The. I went down to 225 50 17. No rub at all turning all the way and it's much more comfy as well

I will buy tires soon, will stock rims can hold 225? Or can go more width without rubbing issues?

I autocrossed last year on 245 RS3's on the stock wheels at the oem ride height. Never felt unsafe but had some sidewall flex. Had the first tire shop refuse to install them and basically had to beg the second shop to do the install.

stock wheels and stock everything else...225/45/17 will work fine.

If you're going for the most amount of contact patch...look into Yokohama AD08's. PSS's are pretty good...but if you live where there's light snow/cold-near freezing temps...look into the AS3's.
