are the prices in the USA exclusive of sales tax? doesnt each state have a different percentage that goes on top?

This.

We've already heard from Subaru that it will be for 'people who couldn't afford a wrx' and in the dream world of PR statements I'm sure $2,000 is considered enough of a difference to say that. Although when you look at the spec, perhaps the BRZ is closer to a 'Premium' WRX so the price will be more like $46,000. Might make more sense as it leaves a lot of headroom for the Toyota's.

Having said that though I think the base WRX in the states is not quite as well equipped as here, I think they have three models there.

And having said _that_ it's a waste of time trying to convert, it will be priced where they think they can sell the volume they want...

Honda CRZ is about 20k in the USA. It's about 40k here.

With a Scion FR-S going for 24k, the 86 will probably be over 40k.

I think you're being a little too optimistic thinking that it will only be a 30% increase over the US price.

I'm not expecting it to be under 40k but if it is that's a bonus.

Would 22% be better, maybe 25%. Lower % or higher?

If Toy Aus keep to there original plan of low 30's i think most would be happy. Don't believe the est starting from $35,000 mark.

Nearly every Journo and review i have read has said the same price because that's what Toy Aus tell them.

It was always a ball park 35k but Toy Aus have plenty of adjustment with that, is it 35k drive away or 35k+ORC, Toy Aus have 3-5k (depend what orc is) to fine tune the purchase price

Toyota will be coy about it all and when the times right (hopefully this month) drop a bomb to ramp up desire for the car.

My gut feeling its 31k +orc give or take 1k, i can feel it in my bones. Making the 35k a drive away est.

Time will tell, fuck its painful thou isn't it.

$34-35k driveaway based on state.

If this is the price it comes out at, I'm gonna be so happy with Toyota I'll by a Yaris for my girlfriend too.

Take a photo of her smile when you do

After all this:

* Reading i/we have done over the years online and in this forum

* All the car comparisons i/we have done with real ORC cost for each car in each country, with % comparisons across different countries for each car(fuck me some are dear in Oz)

* All the math on US v's AU $$ and seeing the JP price and the FR-S price,

* For what his car offers equipment wise(we know the leather wont be the same as found in Ferrari)

* Chatting with Toyota people and trying to get info, observing what they say.

* The state of the worlds economy

I cant see how the 86 in OZ will be over 35k drive away (depending on state and charges) for the base model if the 86 is 24k in the US.

Now maybe just maybe the initial price could be 1-2k more then what i suggest due to demand but as with some models after 6-12mths the hype cools off and things return to what could be considered normal. or factory bonus's etc you know how it goes.
