but our cars are significantly better equiped than the Aqua. our top model which is $27k + orc has smart key (53,550 yen), LED headlights (115,500 yen), alloys, much better audio etc etc. lets say our C has $2.5k worth of options over JDM G spec, so the JDM converted price will be around $24k. only $3k cheaper in Japan.

with the 86, it looks like we are getting the JDM G (our GT) and GT Limited (our GTS). G sells for 2.41M and GT Limited sells for 2.97M (both excludes tax). converted AUD is around $28k and $35k. spec seems to be pretty similar between JDM and AUDM. so in a way, i don't know how Toyota can justify $10k extra if our prices ended up to be $38k/45k + ORC.
+1

I said this ages ago, if its not below 30k dont bring it in, it will fail, but i was flamed and suggested i dont belong in intelligent conversations.

Now we all know direct conversions between countries and other models is a good starting point (except a few models) for an estimate and Nardi your sums are correct as i had worked them out a while ago hence my "not over 30k" comment.

We as humans in the western world are mostly emotional shoppers as apposed to logical shoppers and companies prey on this mind set and the price will be set accordingly.

Once your inlove with something its hard to say no or we talk ourselves into it and pay for it later, so easy to get money these days companies are making bucket loads on the mind set of emotional shopping and top up the price 10-20% (my last place of employment we had 300%) simply because we cant or find it hard to say no.

As you suggest Nardi, how will Toyota Aus explain given todays economic condition 10-15k difference.

Ill most likely not buy a 86, not straight away atleast (and to think in the beginning i was planing to buy 2 of them), but unless the base is around 30-32k i wont be buying.

In the end thou it is hard to say anything really untill the car it released and people start giving their personal opinion rather then relying on Jorno's.

the hype in oz is dying.. everyone i talked to arent so impresed any more. general consensis is that it looks good, but too small, too underpowered (noone cares or understand power/weight really, good luck explaining that to a country of falcadore 2ton loving power hungry people) too impractical, to expensive (most people heard the 45k rumors..) my guess. will sell great initially to enthusiasts, overprice, then it will flop in about 12 months from now.
im with JFC
i was gonna buy a orange one for me and a black one for the missus (she likes it too)
if it the rumors are true (which there is no reason for them to be, this car shouldnt be more than 35K drive away for base, and 38K drive away for top) we will get a wrangler (or a cx5 or evoque if i can talk her in to it, i dont like jeep she loves them) for her and my 8 will get forced induction and stiffer suspension, i dont care if it costs more than 2x86 in the end, i will do it to spite toyota for being stupid :p

Many ppl are now getting frustrated with the lack of official information. Along with the high rumor price people are now starting to feel negative towards it......

And that's my problem. I Hope that they are smart enough to set a price that is low enough for them to have heaps of sales for years to come, not just a few quick dirty ones and car falls thru.. Like I said before I would love to see this car sold for many years in high numbers, with good aftermarket support in Australia, and new iterations released constantly, rather than flopping in 12 months and corporate saying noone likes it..
They are gonna have comp soon, the Hyundai genesis is coming soon enough

Didn't the 1st year volumes anticipate only 1200 units?

on a related note, Veloster is selling pretty well and it's obvious price is a major factor.

Take note Toyota Aus.

Nice looking car, sharp lines, average performance without turbo but we purchase cars for different reasons.

Toyo Aus wont care, they will sell this car for what they think they can get v's sale numbers. More they charge the less they sell. Balancing act really.

As mentioned the 86 hype has died right off and within 12mths i doubt Toyota will be selling more then 20 a month country wide. Well that the feeling im getting.

I would hope most prospective 86 buyers don't place them selves into the same sociodemographic that the Veloster is aimed at.

And to go along with 70nyd im betting Toyo Aus will sell at a high rate until sales drop(enthusiast drop off) and a competitor comes in then the price will drop. If i had to guess i would say $35+orc for base and will drop to $32-34k driveaway by end of next year if not earlier.

For the sake of the car longevity i severely hope not.

Although we are a falcon and commodore dominant country i feel the tides are turning and have been for a while that these big tanks arent the flavour as per 5-10yrs ago and it wont be long and the smaller cars will be all the range.

Did i read somewhere that Holden is in trouble and needed government help with money. Reported 1 billion (never searched but i recall it was a very large figure) to redesign the commodore or some shit like that. Money well spent yeah!!

Mazda 3 out sold commodore and Falcon last year didnt it??
