2005 MINI Cooper S: $23,500 (wife's current DD)
2007 VW GTI: $26,500 (my old DD) 2010 Toyota 4Runner: $36,200 (my current DD) 2012 Toyota Prius v: $36,550 (wife's on-order DD) Those are the stickers of last 4 cars I've purchased. The FR-S seems cheap in comparison.

Wow! That is what a Prius costs? :-s
I didn't realise wanting to look like you cared about the environment cost so much money ;-)

The base Prius v is $26k.It isn't so much saving the environment than getting a car that is comfortable, huge inside (for the upcoming baby), and is easy on gas. Maintenance is super cheap on them (no belts, no alternator, no starter, brakes last forever), they are super reliable, and they will have great resale as gas prices keep climbing. The only other car that is as large and efficient (only on the highway) is the VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI. My VW GTI was a reliability nightmare so I won't go near a VW dealership any time soon, especially when it is the car that will be carrying my wife and child. Regardless of what Toyota, Subaru, or you/anyone says this cars target was, the simple fact remains there are people like me on this forum who want a new car this year because our current car is 9 years old(or however old). I also am considering the GC if I either cannot due to availability or do not want the BRZ/FR-S after driving or looking at one. I am also considering the 2013 Civic Si, and that isn't even a RWD! Some of us look at what we're getting for X amount of money. We don't necessarily care if it's FWD or RWD. If the engine is in front or back, or whatever else. Personally my main concern is weight. I insist upon a vehicle that is well below 3000lbs, preferably 2500ish. The other criteria is that I must have a coupe. So, THAT is why you keep reading people comparing it to the GC...because many of us ARE comparing it to the GC with money in hand ready to go. Your opinion or Toybarus fact on the competition becomes moot if the end user makes the comparison. |

After reading the last 7 pages of complaints about the pricing I've come to one conclusion, and that conclusion is that most of the members on this forum that are interested in buying this car may not be able to afford this car hence the complaints ($500 a month car payment over the course of 5 yrs may be too steep for some).
IMO, $25,000 isn't expensive for what you're getting (european styling, track performance, 53/47 weight distribution, detailed interior/exterior, boxer engine, toyota quality, etc). And as it's already been said......there are no "new" cars that can compete with what the FR-S/BRZ offers at this price. PERIOD! With that said, I'm know there are a few of us "slightly" older that visit the forum, I'm 36, who may have jobs that afford us the ability to see this car and think $25,000 is reasonable. For others who are maybe younger, or may not have steady employment, this may be too expensive for them. In short, maybe the price complaints are based off of forum members "lack of income" which in turn translates into complaints of an "overpriced car". Regardless, next year I'll be in the market for either a FR-S/BRZ (even if the BRZ sells around $30k) as I think it's still a reasonable price for WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. Now if they offer a TRD or STi version, that would be even more exciting but will come with a hefty price increase I'm sure. Hope nobody takes offense to my posting.......just expressing my thoughts on the matter when it comes to the pricing complaints. :happy0180: |

LOANS caused the stock market collapse, not inflation. It had zero to do with inflation except some inflation penalty by printing money to cover the bad loans (bank bailout). Although as I already said this inflation penalty hasn't really shown up in any data - inflation has been constant the last few years as well. Learn the history before you make outrageous assertions. |

Some are trying to "sort things out" but probably found out about this car about less than 2 weeks ago.. This car will attract a lot of attention and Toyobaru will want to juice the hype by later releasing other varients of the car.. Its the only smart thing to do, and doesn't have any negative side to doing so.
