Even the ej25 they ran for the past two years couldn't keep up... To the point where they had to use a nitrous kit for the launches.

Thanks guys for all the support. It's definitely been a crazy couple of years running with Greddy and Scion Racing. The EJ25 was a good motor (not the best for competitive drifting in formula d), but it just wasn't enough to keep up with those crazy high hp cars. We tried everything from nitrous, anti-lag, two-step launch control and what not.
This new build has everything that was lacking with the number 1 car. I'm exciting for the new car and the upcoming season. I appreciate all the love and support we get from this forum. |

Oh, and in regards to using an FA20.....
It'll take a ton of money to see the true potential of this engine. I don't doubt the engine in any way. I'm already starting to feel that it's way better than any Subaru engine to date. The problem is it just won't produce the torque necessary to fight off those damn V8s. We at Greddy just don't have enough time and money to see if the FA20 can make 800+Whp while banging off the rev limiter while sustaining cooling efficiency. Engines used in drifting cannot be compared drag engines. Sure we can build a 600hp fa20. But will it take the beating? |

Why not the LSx swap? There's already a company doing the swap for customers. (Sorry if noob question, don't know much about the logistics of building a drift car.)

Not sure if it would make sense for Greddy to swap a LS7 in a project they sponsor. At least with the 2JZ, they are showcasing their turbos and engine parts. Nothing wrong with the 2J anyways. Fredric Asabo has a pretty impressive swapped FR-S. I am surprised Scion doesn't supply cars for the build.

I can't see the old people & hipsters who buy 99% of the Scions out there really being reached by an advertising tie-in....

The D1 series, I'm sure, has politics involved as well (it's just that I don't understand it because I don't speak Japanese), but it SEEMS more pure / raw than the series we experience here in the States. I respect ALL drifters and especially the pros, but sometimes skills aren't enough... they need a competitive ride to do their job... and this is why I am so excited for Ken getting a powerplant that isn't so frustrating and limited. ![]() ![]()

Yeah, it's not so much about the total power output, it's how the power comes on. From what I remember he had antilag and/or nitrous to wind that 4 banger out to reach the power that he had in the previous car. The 1JZ and 2JZ have powerbands that are broad and the motors themselves are beefy. I have some insider knowledge that I don't want to get into but it's just really unfortunate that quality isn't what it used to be with some companies. Greddy is one manufacturer that I work with that I trust to do their homework and get Ken to more podiums this year. The gloves are off and it's time to see what a purpose built car can do finally. I'm glad they ditched the subbie motor (no offense to the subaru lovers!). |
