How many miles are on the car?
I can't see any basic brake service costing $400 (bleed, fluid echange, etc.) but if you need 4 wheel brake service (pads/rotors); I can see that number being subjective (i.e. if only one axle needs pads) so maybe it's a rough estimate to prepare the ignorant. |

Unless you're having braking issues, I would skip this service. I would do the brake fluid exchange every 2 years, it's 75 dollars usually and that's about it. Unless the brake pads are worn out or the rotors are warped, it's not time to do any brake servicing. I would also skip any inspection as well. It's not worth it. |

Same situation as OP. I can't justify being charged so much when they aren't actually replacing something. Our cars are still new to spend so much servicing this early.

When I took it in for service at 20,000KM they did not do anything like that to my vehicle. Just the usual oil change and walk around the car. Should I be worried or relieved?

The Canadian owners manual is pretty overkill with their maintenance schedule.

I'll give it another shot to try and save my fellow Hachi drivers some money. My RSX needs brakes. My local Honda charges $199 for the fronts, $199 for the backs any day of the week. On sale, that prices drops to $175 each, total $350-400 depending on sale or not. Your $400 service this time includes about $50 for the oil change, and the remaining $350 to LOOK at your brakes, then maybe machine the rotors? Did you know just about any auto parts store around you will turn your rotors for between $5 and $10 each if you bring them in? So, they're basically charging you the full price of machining all 4 rotors, replacing all 4 pads and packing them full of grease. You're paying for an entire 4 wheel brake job but only getting the cheapest part done(machining rotors, total cost $20-$40). Like the guy a few posts above me said, if your rotors needed machining, you most definitely would know about it without them telling you because your car would shudder when you brake. Save that extra $350 for when you get the entire 4 wheel brake job done when it's needed. Call them up and ask how much a full brake job costs, you'll see. It should be close to what they're already asking. |

Reading the manual suggest your new car requires more maintenance than a used car. I don't know if you have provincial inspections in Ontario but here it's a yearly thing and they do check brakes and suspension (and it's 35$!), redundant.
I'm not bringing my car to the dealer unless it's broken, that's just me. I can take care of it myself.

Just change the brake fluid at 30k unless you are tracking your car. Make sure to change it though, I never did it in my last car. Hand countless brake problems after that. I had to replace like 6 calipers. 2 sets of rotors.
But now I'm good at disc brake service lol.

If you hear people say "i've never changed my brake fluid on my car"... well their car isn't from this century or have all these sensors in their cars now. |
