Anyone here have a successful install of an aftermarket headunit? I just got my new Pioneer Z150BH in and am contemplating how I want to install it...Want to make sure it's 100% done properly and everything (wiring, etc.) is tucked away neatly.

A few concerns are
- routing the new mic since OEM isn't compatible
- routing GPS antennae to a good spot
- cost

Just wondering if anyone has a guy that did it for them or whether someone followed a really good DIY with no issues?

Thanks

I've installed my own in several vehicles (including my 86). I'm more than willing to help an install. I'm free most week days after 3 and weekends. A new head unit is about a 20 min install with 20 min of soldering before hand. Shoot me a PM and I'll find a time to walk you through it.

Yup super simple. I didnt have to mount a GPS antenna but I would say it would be most out of the way on the rear parcel shelf... but thats a lot of extra wiring routing. Im sure harbringer will steer you right. I mounted my mic using a tiny piece of 2 sided tape on the top of my steering column right next to the gauge cluster. Its nearly invisible and gets great audio. Others have run the mic up into the roof to where the OEM one is.

Best of luck on the install! I would also recommend a relay to allow your passengers to watch videos on the road... and remove other stupid pioneer limitations that despite being for your safety are downright annoying.

Can I just ground out the parking brake wire? I would rather make it as discrete as possible I've heard using those relays can get you into trouble insurance-wise if they ever find it after an accident

You cant ground it on the new head units because it requires a special sequence to signal the safety feature. In Pioneers case I think they are all OFF-ON-OFF-ON. You can wire in a switch to the ground wire which should work? however I think it needs to go from seeing Positive to Negative signal so it cant just be a simple on/off. Don't quote me on that part though because I used a relay...

Regardless it is no longer as simple as grounding out the park wire.

Can you link the relay you used?

I actually used a standard automotive relay available at Canadian Tire for around $5. http://www.caraudioforumz.com/instal...bypass-263025/

that link will give you the info you need about how to wire it. If you want to go the "official route" this [ame="http://www.amazon.com/AVH-X1500DVD-AVH-X2500BT-AVH-X3500BHS-AVH-X4500BT-AVH-X5500BHS/dp/B00A9AQPUU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380999115&sr=8-1&keywords=pioneer+bypass"]Amazon.com : Parking Brake Override Bypass Fully Automatic Video in Motion for Pioneer Models AVH-X1500DVD AVH-X2500BT AVH-X3500BHS AVH-X4500BT AVH-X5500BHS : Electronics[/ame] is the prebuilt one from amazon but i couldnt find it easily in Canada.

Let me know if you need anymore help. Do a little research and make sure the Z150 uses the same double pulse as the X5500 (which is what I have). I cant find any official documentation on it.

Welcome to the group.

Attaching a picture is done with the paper clip, but, the challenge is to come within the site's pixel sizing restrictions. I usually go old school and use MS Paint to resize, but, you can link to any pic sharing sites (just have to set the correct permissions) using the same paper clip function.

I had my tint done through Ziebart Glass next to Guelph Toyota and Scion, but, they (Guelph Scion) do it as well (they can chime in and correct me if I am wrong). Mine is pretty decent, but, I have heard that Ziebart can be inconsistent. There are numerous places unless you have your sights set on ceramic or something like Huper Optik (very premium).

Not a good place - Heffner Toyota. Got our tint done there at the same time as some bodywork after being rear ended and there are some pretty bad air bubbles (and a hair!) under the tint.

our guys here do amazing work, and if they dont they are always happy to warranty pretty much anything, they do all my demos i wouldnt drive with out it now.
Ziebart was a great place to get your tint done, we used them all the time then a few years back they switched owners and quality went downhill hill,

Got it all installed today! Thanks to both of you for the help really appreciated it....took me way longer than a professional install would have taken but I saved 100$+ which I will now spend on other stuff

Wrote a quick DIY if anyone wants to check it out
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48505

*Last thing I have to figure out is what I want to do with e-brake...I wired it up properly (legally) for now to see if I can live with it but I may have to go the relay route.
