Technicaly yes apples to oranges but at the end of the day, people want to go FR-S but only if its worth it, they dont wanna blindly fork over the money.

The 350z, RX8, Genesis, Imprezza, Miata, etc can all be considered competition in a way. If you could aquire a few year old 370z or Imprezza WRX STi for the same price(or less) as the FR-S, then you gotta weigh your options.

Yeah people are pissed off that we don't have pricing yet, but that is how it goes sometimes. When we start to get the chance to order is when we will get final pricing. It's not going to be June, its going to be about 2 to 3 months before June. So think March to early April.

Think $23K for the FR-S in USA and $24k in Canada.

They are in direct competition for some people. This car will be cross shopped with dozens of other cars. Just because you won't consider a genesis as an alternative doesn't mean others won't. This car will compete with cars ranging from caymens to mustangs to civics and so on. Why is that hard for some to understand? I will cross shop it with most compact cars with performance intention and mustangs. It makes perfect sense to me. If you love cars then this is not the only choice, just maybe the best choice. Price will play a huge factor on who buys this car because there are alot of options once you cross the 25k US$ mark.

Unless you have OFFICIAL numbers from a more credible source than the dealer--I would have to say these threads are useless, misleading, and creating unnecessary stress.

You like doing analysis of prices, so I'm surprised you could draw that conclusion from the contest stuff.

If the value of the prize is $30k (and remember this is the total value), then we have $28.5k after subtracting destination etc (also printed in the contest fine print). Take that and divide by 1.13 (sales tax in Ontario) and you get a bit over $25k, or around the same price as competitors like the Honda Civic Si or Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T so that makes a lot of sense from a product marketing standpoint.

Good point, i just looked at the contest details and I didn't realize that sales tax was included in the estimate.

Lets assume the 2013 GC base costs $24800. I'm paying cash for my next car. Hyundai ALWAYS has manufacturer cash rebates on the Genesis Coupe, literally every month for the last 3 years, they are usually $2400 but occasionally go up to $4000. Hyundai does this for most of their models because they recognize the strength of the Canadian dollar at the time of sale. No other manufacturer that I know of does this.

Buying a 2013 GC for $22400 is a HELL of a lot less money than $25k.

Also in this price range you have Mustang V6s, very lightly used G37s and Porsche Caymans.

My point is that $30000 after taxes and freight is a lot of money.

Two days ago I visited Houston Auto Show. Scion has the red FRS concept on display. I asked for brochure or any marketing material of the FRS to the lady at Scion counter. She said they had nothing yet. How about pricing? again I asked. It will be $25K out of the door (she sounded like very confident about this price). How many classes/option will Scion offer? Only 1, she said. You can add bell and whistle as you like. Subaru will offer different grades, she added.

What does $25k mean out the door? T/T/L included? MSRP of $25k is too much for the FRS and would be DOA before it even hits the dealer.

Probably no need to post cause by the time you hear we will already have 6-10 threads on the topic.
