That was the original report.

However, I've looked down at the frame rails in my BRZ and there are no access ports. So it's business as usual for a Subaru plug change.

The thing is, I was thinking about this, and without taking a look under the panels beneath the car, lifting the engine might not be all that difficult. Without front axles to content with, it might just be a matter of two or four nuts and jacking it up.

Kind of reminds me of the Porsche 964 and 993 with their dual plugged heads. The lower set of plugs required the removal of the mufflers and many of them never have had their lower plugs changed.
Try changing all eight of the sparkplugs in two 2003 E-350 vans.... twice.

I've never swore more in my life nor gotten as filthy working on a car.

IMO the opportunity to pull and engine and do some freshening is a good thing as long as you research it ahead of time, make sure you have the right tools, and plan ahead.

I'm not worried about it. I will plan on adjusting the valves and replacing the valve cover gaskets at the same time.

No valve adjustment needed. Self adjusting valves here.

Changing Plugs

We have gotten lazy, I am old I know but in 60's plugs and points only lasted months not years!
I too looked at engine and told saleman the plugs were going to be a bitch but my 05 Mazdaspeed only has 14K on it so I probably will not live long enough to change plugs in FRS!

The problem isn't getting a wrench in there it's getting the coils out. No way to get the coils out with out dropping/raising the engine.

It really isn't that bad. Took me 2 to 3 hours in my driveway to raise the motor up and take a look at my plugs

I had the dealership look into replacing my spark plugs today because I'm at 51k miles and have a road trip across the continent coming up, so thought it a good idea to get everything checked on. Got quoted $450 because it's just labor intensive. Will still probably have them do it before I go.

Thats probably 5 hours plus parts and misc charges. Not that bad actually, they are probably just estimating that because it isn't something they have done a lot of. I'd probably give a similar estimate if I was running a shop.
