I would hope comptech or someone will come out with a proper supercharger. The TRD units are pretty weak. I'd guess this car could hit close to 300whp with a eaton style blower by comptech. That'd be more than enough power for me.

I like the sound of a warrantied supercharged FR-S. Enough power to drift with ease, good gains with I/H/E, great torque, no lag . . . hopefully MPG won't suffer too much

Just wondering, in a clutch based supercharger, can you make it so that with the flip of a switch you "disable" the supercharger, for fuel economy?

Factory 4A-GZE on the supercharged MR2 had this. Electromagnetic clutch like on an A/C compressor and a bypass.

After resurching, TRD/Modelista may very well be building a supercharger for the 86. Now the more critical question is whether this version/kit will be imported here (US/EU). DI injection is not a problem for supercharging. Autodelta built the first DI supercharged engine.

Direct injection engine allows a slightly higher compression ratio to be used, resulting in improved fuel efficiency at low and medium revs. The improved fuel delivery system allows a lowering of emissions, particularly during the 'cold start' procedure. Power output of this engine has been raised by Autodelta to 220 bhp @ 6,600rpm while the peak torque delivered is boosted to 192 lb/ft @ 3,400rpm. Price includes installation
What Subaru is going to do is another thing. And I really don't think they'll supercharge this engine. They would only turbocharge it. We have still to know this car was meant to be NA but in the purpose of being modded, so they very well new many will want to add forced induction, so they surely made the engine good for this. A turbo/supercharger kit costs arround 5.000 € in general. For example Autodelta built such kits for all engines. Why wouldn't it be possible to see lower priced kit for only one engine?

Cool. Hope we see something like that in this supercharger. Also seems like a great way to enjoy both NA and FI at the flip of a switch. Does it change the fueling map though?

Blur,

A roots blower has little to no effect on steady state fuel economy, no fancy clutch required. With the bypass open, the parasitic losses drop to something on the order of ~1-2hp.

I was thinking, if the 200 hp version can, for the most part, support significantly more hp it seems reasonable to assume it is fairly robust. The question for me becomes, do I want 200 hp that I can use and abuse or do I want 300 hp that I feel hesitant about driving very hard frequently due to stress on the motor. I think I would rather have 200 hp if I can use all of it and drive the car very hard. Sorry if this is off topic

If Toyota built this car like they say they did as in it being tuner friendly. 300whp should be no problem. We already know the transmission is robust, the question is, is the motor?

Somebody has to crack the ECU before any of that happens.
