I know Perrin Performance has done some research into power loss in relation to Oil Temps, so they are working on a cooler kit currently. Given they are doing the R&D in relation to this discovery and not just pumping our run of the mill "type s" or "type R" cooler kit, i would lay my dollars down with them...

Providing there is fresh airflow and no influence of other heat sources, placement isn't too much of an issue.

Directed to AVO and others who are serious about this kit. What are you considering for an oil cooler kit?

The Greddy kit mounts onto the bar that is now where the intercooler to TB pipe is. I wouldn't be surprised if this pipe could be pulled back and the oil cooler put in front of it, but this isn't ideal, and neither is having a large pipe behind the cooler, that would block air flow.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a dig at the turbo kit design. I would much rather it be designed the way that it has, and and oil cooler solution be an after thought. But I think enough pictures have been released now that we have reached the point of considering the oil cooler location.
I'm not sure why you'd try and go with an off-the-shelf oil cooler kit when turbocharging the car.

I'll be putting my own kit together with a Mocal or Setrab core, thermostatic sandwich plate and -10 lines to fit the car perfectly.

I'd get an off the shelf oil cooler kit, the same reason I would get an off the shelf turbo kit; because someone else has already designed it.

I hear what you're saying, that it might be best to build a custom one, but anyone designing a turbo kit should also consider an oil cooler kit for their product as an up-sell. Seeing NA FA20's getting unacceptable oil temps means that it's going to be a definite for any turbo setup.

putting together an oil cooler kit isn't rocket science... But I can't see the majority of "kits" out there being best fit for a FMIC setup

I'm sure theres a wide range of prices depending on where you take it. I wouldn't take it to just any shop to have it done, i'd want to be sure they're comfortable with boxer engines, and/or doing performance turbo installs.

Also, the estimated price was ~3600-3800 + shipping + taxes? (depending on state i'd imagine). So it should all be doable for < or approximately 5k. Realisticly 6k with an ecuTek(or whatever else is available at the production launch) license and a proper tune.

I've heard repeatedly how simple these are to install. We'll see--swapping pads and bleeding brakes are about the limit of my mechanical experience.
