This is the thread about the AVO turbo system, right? Because I read the title but when I got in here it was all wheels and spark plugs.

Not sure about the wheels, but the part about jacking up the engine for spark plugs is also relevant for a turbo installation if you are going to replace the front pipe as well due to the need to jack up the engine in order for the flange to have enough clearance to be removed.

Factory Exhaust/Overpipe?

Hey,

I read through the thread- but don't remember if it was asked, or stated:

Will this kit work with the factory exhaust and/or overpipe placement?

I ask because i was initially planing on replacing the exhaust, and frontpipe. I was contemplating if i'd get a frontpipe/overpipe replacement but wanted to make sure whatever i replace will be compatible with this kit down the road.

Basicly if the exhaust port on the turbo is in the same place that the stock manifold bolted to the overpipe then that's gold. It looked like the stock overpipe was retained in the OP picture... but i just wanted to be sure before shelling out cash for a piece and having to replace it later on.

Thanks again, and im super excited for this kit . But i'll probably have to wait a year before the wife lets me spend this kind of money on the FRS...

Not trying to continue the thread jack, but thats not true. If you remove the heat shield on the over pipe (assuming thats what you meant), you can get the over pipe out without raising the engine.

But if you did mean the front pipe, theres absolutely no reason to raise the engine as that pipe is behind the steering rack and runs along the transmission.

the replacement over pipe is a greater diameter than the original so liftin the engine is necessary

I installed a larger over pipe. It took some wrangling, but there is no need to lift the engine.

I think it depends on whose overpipe you buy. gmookher has the one from Perrin, which follows the bends of the stock overpipe. If you have an overpipe with the same bends as stock and is bigger diameter, it's basically the same size as the stock one with heat shields in place (on the outside anyway).
SRT straightened their overpipe out a bit to improve flow, so it's easier to maneuver. I found the SRT extremely easy to install, no engine jacking required. The downside, as we've seen is that as currently designed it doesn't clear auto transmissions. Some slight tweaking should cure that, without losing much, if any of the straightening.
I think Nameless were actually the first to straighten out the overpipe, and they made it considerably straighter.
