I can tell you that you definitely won't be feeling a 1 degree of timing knock correction, and that was over a very short RPM window before the ECU said, "Nope, I was probably wrong about that call" and put the timing back in.

I'll leave it to Paul to comment on whether or not you can feel the corrections in the car. My experiences are not with this car and perhaps this particular motor/ECU combo is far smoother than other cars I've experienced.

Regardless of real or not, the ECU "hears" more things happening and takes preemptive measures to mitigate the possibility. The lower octane fuel, and who knows if there are any weird blends or oxygenation that is in the gas, will inherently be less stable at higher chamber pressures. At this point, I am assuming that the motor is octane limited; smart tuners please refute me.

Paul, does the ignition advance multiplier go beyond 1.0? If I was tuned for 91 octane, then moved to an area with 93 octane, will the ECU adapt to the higher octane?

budi
This may be true but a second set of ears per se will confirm weather it is real or not and this can be tuned out during tuning. Since I am not an EcuTek Master tuner I don't have access to what all it can do but if it is anything like any other tuning software you can adjust knock sensitivity and the total amount of knock retard when detected. You can even adjust in most cases the speed in which it pulls timing. There are a bunch of different ways you can change how the ECU reacts to knock detection but you must first determine whether it is real or not before making these adjustments. It is very frustrating to me that I cannot dig into the ECU myself without paying an arm and a leg for the Master EcuTek license but at the same time I like it because it keeps people from ripping off your hard work in tunes. Once you start really modifying you vehicle the stock knock sensors can start picking up all kinds of false readings so this is a great way to account for that.

1.0 is the best case scenario. The stock ECU setup starts at 0.7, and ramps up from there (on good gas) or down from there (on bad gas). On a bad tank of gas or extreme conditions, it's normal to see it down in the .6 range. Toyota and/or Subaru knew the engine was going to see bad gas, which is always going to be an issue at 12.5:1 compression, so the ECU is designed to deal with it as best possible.

It may seem like we are being overly finicky about keeping it at 1.0, but we just want to make sure we deliver as safe a tune and setup as possible.

Looks like a high quality and reliable water/meth injection system is now on my list of support add ons for FI.

Ahhh, I wouldn't charge for that. Just need to make up another template to size. If I can, I'll see if I can arrange for it to be done factory side, so it doesn't need to be completely unpacked to be painted.

I would like that too, but guess I'll have to DIY it! A paper/carton template would help (cough, cough)

It'd be nice to have as an option, in white on the black fmic would look nice, the logo with turbo in it would like awesome IMO, but obviously makeit an option for those who really want to retain the oem look.

Cheers!
