Better gas does help a bit, and then there will be dyno differences. They aslo have a full production kit, as in, the latest UEL header design and other parts. The automatic charts were from a car with that as well.

That's why figures from my car are a "work in progress". It's still on the pre-production UEL header, and so there will be some differences on production kits. Hopefully a quicker spool won't be a deal breaker.

If quicker spool is a deal-breaker then I must be in dream land and need to wake up.

Emissions

I'm wondering if the loss of the first CAT will lead to a fail on emissions testing. Do you know what the impact of the loss will be?

I'm in Ontario and I'm not sure how close our testing is to Cali rules.

Will there a CATTED downpipe be available or is the impact negligible?

It's going to depend entirely on the type of testing. It would fail a visual check, but then, so would any exhaust system that replaces either of the cats, in the header and in the front pipe. If you keep the cat in the front pipe, either the stock or a quality high-flow cat, it should pass a sniffer test as long as it's tuned properly.

If it's similar to Washington State, and a lot of other areas, you simply have to pass OBD-II testing. They will stick an OBD-II cable in, check for DTC codes, and if doesn't find any, you pass.

More Emissions

It looks like it is a combination of DTC for newer cars plus a tailpipe emissions test for older cars with a visual inspection for both. Since I've been paying attention they've shifted the requirements a few times. All shops set up for emissions testing have the equipment for tailpipe testing. Seems like one of those things the government can change arbitrarily.

So no plans for a 2 cat solution? I just don't want to get jammed up without a way out.

Thanks for your prompt replies! Always good to see vendors taking the time to answer these kinds of questions.

A lot of states require visual now.

It would be fantastic if there was a CARB'esque version of this kit that mounted the turbo behind (at least) the first cat.

The technician is going to look for that 02 sensor and primary cat. I have never seen them go under the car to look at the secondary cat on my previous vehicles.

And since the rest of the avo kit looks so OEM, as long as the emission stuff is all retained... you may pass visual.

I had the bad luck of getting a honda tuner at emissions inspection one time. He took one look at my motor and was like, "this isn't the stock engine though is it"
I just drove away and went to another place.

I cannot really speak in regards to emissions checks, because it varies so much from state to state, and country to country.

But in terms of a visual check, a technician will probably have an easier time seeing that the secondary cat on this car has been removed (the frontpipe) than the primary cat in the header, as the header resides above the engine undertray, and is quite difficult to see in comparison to the secondary, which is easy to see from underneath. That is one of the prime reasons we left it in place for the stage 1 tuning.

I can look straight down from on top of my engine bay and see the O2 sensor and part of the gigantic primary cat...

He is going to notice no?

Here is a video from Ross's 80-lap day at Tsukuba Circuit.

It's only available through Facebook at this time, I'll see about getting it up on Youtube.

Looking at the turbo specs...

What type of Turbo is used?

TD05 18g variant; AVO 18/49 turbocharger. Compressor wheel size 49.2/56 | Exhaust wheel size 50.5/68

It looks like the wheel sizes are back to front?

Because if they are, it makes this turbo a dead on copy of a t518z 8cm....

If it is, I'd be even more interested in the AVO kit. That turbo is no slouch!
