Correct me if I'm wrong here, but, from the pictures, it would seem you could just use the front portion, the part that goes in behind the front bumper cap, with an AFE/Airaid intake and still make use of the intake?

Price is 79,800 yen without the resonator and 105,000 yen with it. With todays rate that is basically around $1000 and $1300.

It's going to go on sale in November or December

Can you use your stock resonator with this system? Any idea what the benefit woulb be to spend $300 on their resonator?

Amazing looking workmanship on that CF, the design seems legit too.

Id rather see syms make an option in plastic themselves rather than someone stealing the design. But hey, if they cant act fast to satisfy the (not willing to pay cf prices) market then China will have its way with it.

How would this be performance wise since it uses the original filter? Wouldnt a CAI or any other aftermarket be better? It just looks like the original intake with a huge thing to catch air.

Sorry I am still new to modifying cars.

This.

And how much air are you going to catch from behind the bumper?

So far the OEM intake (with a smoother silicone inlet) and a high flow drop-in filter seems to work better than all the intakes on the market.

The Syms system looks to be a good design (keeps OEM MAF housing, opens up the snorkel a bit).

Results will tell.

Unless their is any dynos I wouldnt want to bet 1300 dollars on that. Thats the least they can do if they are going to charge that much even if they use the stock air filter.

I doubt you would see the real benefits of an intake design like the Syms on a dyno. You would probably see the benefits once you start moving fast. Most likely this intake design purpose was more for response then power

IMHO, I don't agree with this...

The bottle necks in the OEM setup are really the snorkel at the front of the airbox, and the accordion section of the rubber pipe.. If that front half of the box maximizes that hole to the largest shape possible (within the constraints of existing cutout in the chasis) then it makes sense, as it improves one of those bottlenecks.

Not worth the cash they are asking, but I wouldn't doubt if this intake plus a high flow drop-in and a replacement elbow (like the AVO silicone piece) turns out to be the best performing intake on the market.

With what we know right now, the OEM seems to be a very good design. Little tweaks to that design may be a better plan than some thrown together intake from the aftermarket.

Awaiting results, of course... who knows it might suck... but theoretically, it make sense.

With the MR-S none of the aftermarket intakes made power (unless you had a 2zz swap and a programable EMS). However, replacing the snorkel inlet pipe that runs from the body side vent to the air box with a larger diameter piece did result in a few HP.

I keep hearing people talk bad about the accordion section of the intake. Here is my 2 cents:

I recently worked security at an event where I had to watch over 60 of these really nice cars made by an Italian automaker. Ferrari, perhaps you have heard of them? Anyway, each and every car at the event had an accordion section in the intake. EVERY single car.... They are there for a reason, not because the manufacture decided to get cheap. Any intake I put on my car will be leaving this section in place. This is one of the many reasons I think this intake is a great design.
