I'm a heavy Unichip owner in Chicagoland. Will have a second BRZ setup next weekend. Major gains proven. Customer service is great and so is the product.

my car blew a couple of engines tuned on ecutek (Tuned by MRT) before switching to autronic on the 3rd engine with a more serious build. That said I personally much prefer any tuning solution that has full direct control rather than a signal bending piggyback.

It's nice to have complete control over all your maps, injection timing, DBW, launch control etc etc

Unichip Warranty Information

For 90 days following the original owner’s purchase of a Unichip, Unichip of North America (UNA) warrants no other ECU product generates more power from a specific gasoline engine than a properly functioning, custom tuned Unichip in the specific vehicle for which it is tuned. If another ECU product generates more power from that engine within 90 days of the original owner’s purchase of the Unichip, the original owner can contact their Unichip dealer for a refund of all Unichip parts, Unichip installation charges, and Unichip custom tuning. Shipping, testing, dynamometer costs and the cost of removing any UNA parts are specifically not covered by this warranty and will not be refunded to the owner.

To claim a refund, owners must provide dynamometer proof another ECU product produced more power when installed on the specific vehicle and that vehicle and all of its parts were in an identical condition other than the ECU enhancement. Three repeatable dynamometer tests must be performed using the Unichip and three repeatable tests using the other ECU product. The average of the three tests performed on each product shall constitute that product’s score for determining power. The same technician, using the same dynamometer in an identical condition with the same settings, must perform all test runs. All environmental conditions including ambient and IAT temperature and pressure altitude and the vehicle’s cooling system temperatures and drive train temperatures must also be identical for all six runs. IAT and Coolant temperature data logged information for each run is required. The vehicle must also use the same fuel for all six tests. UNA reserves the rights to, at UNA’s exclusive discretion, re-tune the Unichip involved in a performance warranty claim at no cost to the customer making the claim or to provide a warranty refund; if after a retune, the Unichip still makes less power than another product, the owner will receive a refund IAW this warranty statement.
Anyone who wants to really test UniChip vs EcuTek, here's a little risk mitigation if you side with EcuTek. Written explicitly into the UniChip warranty info that you can get a full refund if you test both and EcuTek makes more power on the same car, same fuel, same dyno, same conditions.

Pretty cool warranty/refund policy.

I remember back in the 350Z days one tuners strategy to "make more power" was to disable the knock sensor. It's easy to make more power. It's hard to make a car drivable and not destroy it.

My 2 cents...The unichip is a great product with amazing customer service. I have PM jack many times asking questions that do/don't involve the unichip and he has always given me a well thought out response on what the better "mod" would be. The product itself is great and the ability to download new tunes in a minute is amazing. That being said...I cant wait for E85 haha.

true about more tunes with their library but what if you get a bad map and things go wrong? Ecutek is a reflash yes and as one person said from Australia its better to go standard alone full engine management. I ve had bad things with plug and plays and herd same from others. Not knocking unichip there a great product its just i prefer ecutek for what im doing for now.

They spend a good amount of time on their maps. I highly doubt they would release a poor map and ruin their name for the FRS/BRZ.

EcuTek and UniChip are both great companies from what I can tell. Both have there advantages and disadvantages and will be more suitable to different people. That being said both companies have had some pretty amazing project cars, with what appear to be great results.
Unichip Lamborghini Gallardo, Ecutek GTR R35. They work differently, they work well. Lets not make this about who blew up a car. People have blown up cars with sheer stupidity using everything from tunes to bolt on parts.

I personally ordered a UniChip about a week ago, and it should be arriving any day now. It works for me leaving no foot print of my mods and providing a mild power increase for the time being.

Thank you to both companies and all others for your contribution to this community we cant do a damn thing without you!

^ Well said.

Unless we are doing a dyno shoot off tuner v tuner this thread will never be resolved. At this point it is going off topic a little more each new post.

Keep it Unichip vs ECUtek on FRS/BRZ topic & not WRX or pass history topic.
