Anyone Ice Autocross their FRS/BRZ/GT86?
This upcoming winter, I plan to ice autocross my BRZ (I live in Illinois). This is my first time ice autocrossing and was wondering if anyone had any experience ice autocrossing their car before and had any input on it.

bolts are fun if you want to go crazy fast... but they may be against the rules.
I would recommend getting studded tires for sure. I tried to do ice racing on non studded tires and the difference is huge. If you really want to go crazy and dont mind changing tires at the event, weathermate (walmart cheapy winter tire) with truck studs in them are amazing. Not bolts in the tire amazing, but pretty good. |

Would love to try this, at least once in my life. I have to find the closest track/lake though

At the very least, you'll want to tractionize the tires [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWYHgHrD-3o"]This is Tractionizing - YouTube[/ame]

Where do you plan on racing?
CWSCC/FVSCC run a bunch of ice racing, I know some people come up from Chicago. They would be a great resource, but I don't think any of them have ice raced this chassis yet. It should be happening this year tho. |

Yup, those were the groups I was looking at. I have a buddy that ice autocrosses his S2K and he has given me some advice but I was just seeing if there were any FRS/BRZ specific suggestions. Yea its going to be a mild winter so I don't know how many events will happen.

Yup Andy. He's hellafast. That's what I plan. It is kinda a long drive from where I am in Chicago too so I will have to block out the whole weekend for ice autocross.

I once lived in the US and took part at several ice racing events in NH.
I was a ton of fun. They had different tire classes (all season, winter and studded tires). Don't go too crazy on tires before you don't know what classes there are and what people are running. |

No need for studs, start out with some good snow tires. Especially since you will have to drive the car a couple hours to the events. Plus, it will give you a lot of practice and allow you to get very used to letting the car slide around. Ice racing is an amazing seat time experience.

It's the same principle as the manufactured siping (slits) in snow/ice tires, taken to a greater level.
