Full build forced induction
I am currently doing my homework on doing a full build on my engine to make the switch to forced induction. A lot of my research has lead me to Crawford Performance and there fully built short block. Goals on the build thus far are 400whp on 93 octane with boost set right around the 20psi mark. I still consider myself an amateur when it comes to a build of this magnitude. Money will not be an issue here so please keep that in mind. Any helpful advice and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Are my goals unreasonable? Is crawford reliable enough?

I too looked into Crawford. When I saw a customer was on his third built motor from them I stopped looking at them. Maybe you'll have better luck than that guy did

Were you able to find out what any of the issues were that he was having? Poor tune, bad turbo, driven too hard/pushed to far, etc..

From what I remember it was engine assembly related. I would also look at Full Blown Motorsports. I believe they offer engine building services. |

Hi, we have tons of motors out there and have a vast knowledge on what these motors need to keep them together. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

The transmission is a major concern at that power level. 400 is right on the line. Street guys have held that power for tens of thousands of miles. On the other hand, Element Tuning (390 whp racecar) goes through a transmission in 5 race days or less. It'll hold together at that power level, but it won't take a thrashing on wide grippy tires and/or an aggressive clutch. It'll take launches, but not clutch-dump crashbox launches. Anywhere above the low 400's seems to be the place where the transmission becomes a guaranteed time bomb regardless of the setup.
Crawford is a really bad idea. Horror stories abound Full Blown does good work. My .02

If I can find a used block I will definitely send it to FBM to have them build it for me.

The car won't be abused too often, but I was going to look into local auto cross events and some track days here and there. Will the transmission so be in danger? Or is it still uncertain what the transmission will be able to take. ... and what kind of mods will need to be done to the transmission to get it to comfortably hold that amount of power?

I don't want to sling more sh*t at anyone. They're banned from this forum. You can find a few entertaining ones on that other Subaru tuner forum that I'm not going to mention, and make your own decision.

Gotcha, appreciate the advice too. I already spoke with FBM and their prices were thousands cheaper, plus offering built heads to go along with the bottom end build. Looking good for FB right now

My fbm block still takes a beating at 30psi. Should make 700ish with the new fueling and turbo
