Terrible IAM w/ OFT - just bad gas?
Hey all,
I am a slave to the questionable 91 octane CA gas, but I decided to pay some attention to my IAM the other day with my OFT after filling up and noticed it was a whopping .31. It fluctuates, and obviously, ~3/4 throttle runs through about 2500-4500 bump it up a bit, but I can't get it higher than .6. If I make a mistake, and put my foot down too far in that band or let the engine bog at ALL, timing is cut again. I know for a fact I used the 91 pump at my last fill-up at my local Shell, but after half a tank of this nonsense I went to another station and also dumped in a container of octane booster. No change after another half tank of careful driving. I'm on the 2.067 91oct map, with no intake mods or header mods, so I guess I'm surprised since this IAM seems to suggest some abysmal gas quality. Is this indicative of some other problem or did I likely just get some sort of horrible junk from that Shell fillup? I'm getting ready to switch to E85 but this whole situation just kinda makes me wary. Thanks! EDIT: Worth noting that there are no E0 stations in the greater LA area, so all fuel I have access to is E10. This probably has something to do with it, I'd wager. Maybe it's just really bad, low octane, also E10 gas.

I think you got some shit gas. Run that tank towards empty, and fill up at a Chevron nearby or something and see if things improve. If not, you may need to pull timing. When I was on that tune I saw my IAM drop, but never even close to that low.

Well I'm glad this is theoretically within the realm of gas and not something wrong with my engine coupled with shitty 91.
It seems like it probably was closer to 87/89, but once I run this tank empty I'm heading to the closest E85 station to see what the fuss is about and hopefully I won't need to worry about this crap anymore anyway. Thanks for the reassurance!
