Lost key fob GT86
Hello All,
Recently purchased a GT86 at auction and was delivered without any of the key remotes. It's a 2014 with keyless entry and push button start. Toyota here are not experienced with them and can't tell me with certainty if it can/can't have a remote coded to it and are saying it needs a new ECU (normal for Toyota) before a remote can be coded. Subaru indicate it can be done but they can't because it's the Toyota version. Can anyone here advise if it is possible to code a remote to the ecu when you have no other remote available? If not, can the ECU be reset to a 'blank' ECU to allow the remote to be coded? Thanks, |

Hello Dan66 and welcome to the forum ......
![]() The dealership should be able to make you a key by knowing the VIN number. It will be expensive. humfrz |

I have the key blade, what don't have is the fob. I'm needing the numbers off the back of the fob so I can get a compatible unit to code to the car. Europe use a different frequency so I can't source one here. Can someone please quote me the numbers off the back of their fob.
Thanks, |

Thanks, but no. I know exactly what I will be doing and just need confirmation of the numbers on the back of the fob. I don't need pointing in a different direction that will cost 10 times more than what I'm doing.

I may be out of line as a newbie, but been around other places for a while...
Toyota is a Global company and Ireland, at least last time I was there, was pretty much part of the whole "global" thing. I think the issue is that (and I am going to cut to the chase) you sound like you have a hot car and are faking a key, or you are talking to the wrong guy at Toyota and you might want to call corporate, a dealership in the US or something like that. International to USA from ireland is: 001- then random dealership phone number. I am also new to this community, but if you had spent time reading the posts you would see that people here are very happy to help (I have yet to ask, but its everywhere), but they create a relationship, explain in detail (with images and videos too) oh, and what you are asking for seems sketchy. I might be wrong, somebody might comply (and I would ask them for their bank account number and last four digits of their social... oh and the first five too, mmkthanks!) Good luck with your auction-bought keyless locked-out FRS. If its legit, Toyota will resolve it right away, albeit for a pretty penny. PS: If this is all legit, I would think you got a pretty discount at auction because it was understood that this would be a massive pain to unwind. New ECU is prolly a good way to go. PPS: Europe "uses different frequency" was my personal favorite line. Is this an American auction car? Really? I am curious how that story happened, would love to hear more! (hey, we could create a relationship!) |

I know I sound sarcastic most of the time, so to clarify: I would be happy to call a dealership on your behalf/have the part shipped to me from Toyota USA if they dont ship overseas/ stop by my local shop, etc.
But details, details, details, would be needed. And I know the dealerships first question is: Vin# please. These are, after all, the keys. Check the forum out some more, I've been lurking for a while and am starting to post since I just bought an FRS. Tons of great people and quality content. You would not believe the work that some people go to so they can help others. I would genuinely be happy to help with a totally clear and legit solution to your problem... suspicious as it is. |

Ok, the whole story.
The car was purchased at auction and courtesy of the auction house, the key fobs are not with the car, just one key blade. The car is an Aus supplied car, Australia uses 315MHz for key fobs, as does the US, where Europe use a different frequency (don't know what, didn't ask, don't need to know). The Toyota fix is ECU, ID Module, 2 x Fobs and coding the system, take out a loan and live on pot noodles for the next two years. But, while Toyota Ireland can order the parts from Japan, it will take months to get and they can't be sure their software will be able to code the Aus spec units. I could try fitting the Europe spec components but again, they can't be sure it will work. I have a locksmith (if the car specialists are still called that) who is confident of being able to code the correct fobs back into the existing hardware. Apparently the security system can be woken into a learn mode with the correct software which makes sense as that is what had to be done in the first place. The rub here is I need the correct fob. Fob's are plentiful in the US for as little as $50 but they are identified by the numbers on the back of the fob, not the Toyota part number. Hence the difficulty. I'm hoping to get 2 fob's out of the US and try that route first as it's the cheapest if it doesn't work. Failing that, I'll probably start shopping around the UK for a wrecker with the modules and fob set as I can always re-sell if that doesn't work. I have relatives here that own a Toyota dealership so I am on tap to the best info and parts availability. You can't get a fob pre-coded for these based on the VIN. The rolling codes mean the security system has to learn a new fob. They can cut a key based on the VIN though. I'm trying to get this sorted without a dealer for as little as possible, rather than with a dealer for as much as possible, that's all. No offence meant Zomfgaaron, was a bad day yesterday and my reply was blunt. Apologies.. |
